Shining soldierly spirit in peacetime

Despite his old age, veteran Nguyen Duc An still promotes the spirit of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in all local activities.

Although he has reached a rare age, veteran Nguyen Duc An is still in good health, agile and clear-minded. He told us about his memories of a time of war.

In 1953, at the age of 16, he was enlightened about the revolutionary ideal and participated in the propaganda of the resistance war against France. In early 1959, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, the young man Nguyen Duc An volunteered to join the army and fought in the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. Then in July 1959, he moved to Laos. In October 1962, Mr. An was discharged from the army and transferred to work at the Phu Tho State Cinema Company under the Department of Culture, which is now the Cultural and Cinema Center under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. During his work, he constantly learned about expertise and techniques to complete the assigned tasks well and serve the cultural enjoyment needs of the people in the province. In August 1968, he continued to volunteer to re-enlist and "go South", participating in the battle in the Southeast battlefield. In 1972, during a fierce battle, he was seriously injured, with many pieces of shrapnel embedded in his head, back, and neck. At the end of 1974, he was transferred to the North, returned to work at the Department of Culture (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and in 1990 retired, living in his hometown Tinh Cuong commune, now Hung Viet commune, Cam Khe district.

CCB Nguyen Duc An recalled: “During the fierce war years, fighting for the independence of the nation, no matter how difficult or arduous, with the spirit of a revolutionary soldier, I was always determined to overcome. When I retired and returned to my hometown, although my wound often recurred, due to the difficult circumstances of my family at that time, the lives of the people in the area were still poor, aware of the situation, I decided to change my thinking, innovate to develop and rise up”.

Veteran Nguyen Duc An actively participates in economic development, creating jobs for many local workers.

Realizing that the local conditions were quite favorable for investing in aquaculture development, CCB Nguyen Duc An accepted bids for land for fish farming. After a while, seeing that the demand for construction materials in the locality tended to increase, he boldly converted the production model to the construction materials sector. In 2005, CCB Nguyen Duc An established Thien An Company Limited specializing in the production of handmade bricks. However, during the production process, he realized that the model was not environmentally friendly, so he shifted his investment to facilities and equipment to produce Tuynel bricks using vertical kiln technology. Since its operation, on average, Thien An Company Limited has supplied the market with about 10 million bricks each year. Thanks to good quality, beautiful designs, and reasonable prices, the Company has found regular customers inside and outside the district and province. Thanks to that, the Company has created regular jobs for 26 local workers with a salary of 6-7 million VND/person/month.

Not only producing and doing business effectively, CCB Nguyen Duc An also enthusiastically participates in social activities and emulation movements launched by the locality. CCB Nguyen Duc An confided: “Although I am old, my will is not exhausted. The will of Uncle Ho's soldier is still intact in me. I have never allowed myself to rest, every day I still participate in production management at the Company”.

Continuing the family tradition, the only son of CCB Nguyen Duc An and his grandchildren always accompany and support his father and grandfather in business as well as always set an example in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws and local regulations... With his tireless efforts on the "fronts" in peacetime as well as in wartime, CCB Nguyen Duc An deserves the titles awarded by the Party and the State: Glorious Soldier Medal, First Class, Second Class, Third Class; Liberation Soldier Medal, Second Class, Third Class; Anti-American Resistance Medal, First Class; Vietnam CCB Commemorative Medal; Commemorative Medal for the Cinematography Career and many other Certificates of Merit and Certificates of Merit.
