When mentioning Van Lang commune, people will immediately think of green squash and products made from green squash. Green squash began to be grown experimentally in Van Lang commune from around 2003 - 2004. After achieving economic efficiency, people began to grow it on a large scale. Up to now, the whole commune has nearly 100 hectares of green squash and is famous for products made from green squash such as: Van Lang green squash tea, fresh squash, consumed in all provinces and cities across the country.

Comrade Pham Ngoc Doanh - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Van Lang commune said: The whole commune has 690 farmer members. In choosing the main crop varieties to develop the local economy, the majority of people trust green squash. In terms of economic efficiency, 1 hectare of green squash can harvest 41 tons, the lowest selling price is from 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg; the peak can reach 21,000 - 22 thousand VND/kg. The annual revenue from green squash is at least about 350 million VND/ha, the highest is about 700 million VND/ha, however, it depends a lot on the output and consumption market.

Along with growing squash, in Van Lang commune, people also grow vegetables such as tomatoes, cabbage and seasonal vegetables... To produce high-yield and high-quality crops, the Commune Farmers' Association regularly coordinates with the District Farmers' Association, Lam Thao Super Phosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company, and animal and plant seed companies to organize science and technology transfer sessions, instructing people on how to choose plants and breeds for high yield and quality... Consulting on how to use fertilizers, how to plant and care for plants properly, and minimizing pests and diseases. At the same time, supporting farmers in finding outlets for their products through trade promotion programs, introductions at supermarkets, wholesale markets...

Thanks to that, Van Lang commune's agricultural products have increasingly gained a foothold in the market, and are widely known and highly appreciated by consumers. In 2023, Van Lang green squash products were recognized as 3-star OCOP products. In 2024, the commune had two more products recognized as OCOP products: Van Lang green squash tea and Thieu Quang Hung rice noodles.

Along with farming, in livestock, in addition to raising pigs and chickens, people in the commune have developed a number of models of raising bamboo rats, rabbits, honey bees, ostriches... for stable income. In particular, the typical model of raising bamboo rats of Mr. Nguyen Van Duc's household - Zone 4 has high economic efficiency.

Mr. Duc shared: In 2019, realizing that raising bamboo rats brought a lot of economic value, I decided to build a barn and experiment with raising the first pairs of bamboo rats.

Mr. Duc's family raises two types of bamboo rats: Thai peach-cheeked bamboo rats and Vietnamese bamboo rats. In which, peach-cheeked bamboo rats have the advantage of giving birth to many, being heavy, weighing about 4 - 4.5 kg/rat, high price, and favored by the market. Vietnamese bamboo rats are a wild species, easy to eat, easy to consume, weighing from 2 kg or less, meeting the needs of mass and ordinary customers. Currently, his family is raising 300 bamboo rats, at peak raising 600-700 bamboo rats. Revenue from bamboo rat farming after deducting costs is about 200 million/year. The market mainly sells to restaurants and people around the area...
