South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has sent a letter calling for support and vowing to 'fight to the end to protect the country' as he faces an arrest warrant.

"I am watching live on YouTube all the hard work you are doing. I will fight to the end to protect this country with you," Reuters quoted South Korean President Yoon's letter on January 1.

Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol believes that Korea is in danger because of the activities of anti-state groups and foreign forces violating its sovereignty. Therefore, he will fight to the end to protect this country, not the government or the party, a free democracy will surely win.

The message was printed on A4 paper with President Yoon's signature, presumably for supporters gathered in front of his residence in the capital Seoul to protest against the opposition's attempt to impeach him.

South Korean court issues arrest warrant for President Yoon

Opposition lawmakers have strongly criticized President Yoon's latest message, accusing him of inciting his supporters and causing more chaos. "As if trying to stage a rebellion was not enough, he has now incited his supporters to engage in an extreme clash," Democratic Party spokesman Jo Seoung-lae said in a statement.

The South Korean president is now facing an arrest warrant. Earlier, the Seoul Western District Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Yoon on January 2 on charges of masterminding the declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024 and abuse of power. Mr. Yoon became the first sitting South Korean president to face an arrest warrant.

However, it is unclear whether the Corruption Investigation Office for Senior Officials (CIO) can execute the arrest warrant, as the Presidential Security Service has said it will continue to take safety measures in accordance with procedures. According to Reuters, the CIO has until January 6, 2025 to arrest Mr. Yoon.
