According to a VNA reporter in Seoul, the ministry has cooperated with the Korea Railway Research Institute to carry out this project. The Hypertube system is designed to use magnetic force to lift and push trains through low-pressure tubes to significantly reduce travel time.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the project is expected to be implemented until 2027, with a total budget of 12.7 billion won (US$8.54 million), of which 3.68 billion won will be used for core technologies such as electromagnetic propulsion system, precision control mechanism and high-speed transport body, in 2025.

At maximum speed, the Hypertube could theoretically reduce the travel time between the capital Seoul and the city of Busan, a distance of about 320 km, to just 16 minutes and 15 seconds, about one-seventh of the current time taken by the KTX high-speed train.
