Long-standing tournament with historical significance

Starting as a small race with a short route, after only two seasons, the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup Cycling Race was recognized by the Vietnam Sports Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and included in the national competition system. Since 1993, the race was first held with a route across Vietnam, marking an important turning point in the history of the tournament's development.

By 2025, the race will have entered its 37th year, with an increasingly large scale and influence. General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) Cao Anh Minh - the copyright owner of the tournament said: "This year's tournament has a special meaning, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday; the 139th anniversary of International Labor Day May 1. We hope to convey the heroic atmosphere of history to audiences nationwide through each wheel rolling across the country."

The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup Cycling Tournament, themed “The Country and Rivers Unite”, is not only a sporting event but also a journey connecting regions, spreading patriotism and national pride. Starting from Tuyen Quang - the land associated with the Tan Trao Historical Site, where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked during the resistance war, further enhances the historical significance of the tournament. This year's tournament has a total of 25 stages, with a total route of 3,059.5 km, starting from Tuyen Quang city and ending at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City at noon on April 30. On the journey of more than 3,000 km, the racing team passes through 31 provinces and cities, from the northern mountainous region, along the central strip of land, up to the Central Highlands and then to the South. Each race is not only a physical and technical challenge but also an opportunity to promote the image of Vietnam and its people to friends at home and abroad.

Unlike many purely sporting races, the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup is a highly symbolic “journey”. Starting from Tuyen Quang, the land of revolution and history, the race passes through the mountainous North, the harsh Central region, the sunny Central Highlands, and then heads to Ho Chi Minh City – the heroic land on the day of great victory.

In particular, the final race at Thong Nhat Hall at noon on April 30 has become a tradition for the past 37 years, as a tribute to those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy once said: "Each place the race passes through is a mark of history, a reminder of the heroic journey that our people have overcome to unify the country."

The pinnacle playground of Vietnamese cycling

The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup Cycling Race brings together 15 leading racing teams, with the participation of 105 domestic and international racers. Prominent racing team names such as Ho Chi Minh City - Vinama, Loc Troi Group, Military Zone 7 or Dong Nai... all bring excellent racers. The fierce competition between the racers has brought attractive and dramatic performances, attracting the attention of many fans.

Prestigious jersey titles such as Yellow Jersey (for the racer with the lowest total racing time), Green Jersey (for the “sprint king”), Red Dot Jersey (for the “mountain king”), White Jersey (for the best young racer) and Orange Jersey (for the best Vietnamese racer) are not only rewards but also motivation for athletes to try their best.

Cycling expert Trinh Duc Tam said that the national cycling race for the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup is not only a professional sports playground but also a journey connecting regions, spreading patriotism and national pride. With profound historical, cultural and social values, the tournament deserves to be a symbol of Vietnamese sports, contributing to building the image of a dynamic, united and developing country.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Head of Cycling, Vietnam Sports Administration, and General Secretary of the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation, the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup Cycling Race is considered a stepping stone for the 33rd SEA Games taking place in Thailand later this year. Through the tournament, the coaching board will evaluate the performance parameters of the national team athletes. Thereby, appropriate adjustments will be made towards achieving the best results for Vietnamese cycling in the Southeast Asian and Asian arenas in the near future.
