According to VTC News, at 7:00 p.m. on September 5, National Highway 51 (section through Long Thanh district to Phu My town) and the access road to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai) were in a state of prolonged congestion, with cars queuing up and having difficulty moving. The cause of the congestion was that a part of the Long Thanh Bridge on the expressway was barricaded to repair the expansion joint.

The traffic was stuck, moving little by little, with the helplessness of the drivers. Previously, since the morning of September 5, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway had been stuck for 2km.

All lanes were packed, one driver said he had been stuck on the road for 2 hours but could not escape the traffic jam.

On Highway 51, trucks and cars lined up in long lines.

Mr. Dong (driver, Ho Chi Minh City) said that normally the traffic jam on Highway 51 is due to overload because there are too many vehicles pouring in here while a part of Long Thanh Bridge on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway has barriers causing this route to be jammed.

Because the road was congested, trucks and cars encroached on the motorbike lane.

Mr. Binh (driver, Ba Ria - Vung Tau) said he was transporting goods for customers from Ho Chi Minh City to Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Although he had predicted in advance that there would be traffic jams in the area around the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and National Highway 51, he did not expect the situation today to be more serious than usual. "This kind of traffic jam is only seen on holidays, who would have thought it would be like this today," Mr. Binh added.

National Highway 51 from Long Thanh intersection towards Long Thanh overpass, the road leading to the highway is jammed, thousands of vehicles are immobile on the road, sometimes moving little by little with difficulty.

According to records, on Highway 51, not only in the direction of Long Thanh - Ba Ria - Vung Tau, but also in the opposite direction, there is a traffic jam lasting for kilometers.

At the toll station on Highway 51 on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, traffic is jammed.

Heavy traffic on the road leading to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway.

Vietnam Expressway Engineering Services Joint Stock Company (VECE - the expressway management unit), a part of Long Thanh bridge is fenced off for construction and repair of the bridge's P20 pier expansion joint.

This expansion joint has a broken rail and must be repaired to ensure safety. The construction is expected to last 18 days.

On the morning of September 5, after the construction unit began erecting a row of markers to prevent cars from entering the lane close to the median strip of Long Thanh Bridge, from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City on the expressway, the road surface on one side of the bridge was narrowed, leaving only one lane, causing cars to be congested and lined up in long lines.
