Building a stable life

The Mong people in Rung Thong village originally migrated from Bac Yen district, Quynh Nhai district and Ta Hoc commune of Mai Son district. Following the guidelines and policies of the Party and the State, the Mong people in Rung Thong village no longer practice shifting cultivation, migrate, clear forests for farming, or plant opium poppies. Instead, they settle down, actively work in production, build villages, and stabilize their lives.

Mr. Giang A Say, nearly 80 years old this year, recalls: When I came here to live, the hills were wild, with trees and weeds growing everywhere. When the village was established, there were 56 households, about 250 people, we told each other to eliminate backward customs, change our thinking and ways of doing things, work hard, and build a new, rich and beautiful homeland.

People in Rung Thong village, Muong Bon commune, Mai Son district, apply automatic irrigation to take care of vegetables.

According to the elderly people here, when they first arrived, life was very difficult; income depended only on corn and cassava on the fields, the crops depended on the weather; some days were full, some were hungry. With the propaganda, mobilization, and technical guidance from cadres, and the introduction of high-yield and high-quality crops into production, as if there was a breath of fresh air, the people's lives changed every day. Solidly built houses were built to replace thatched houses, and the rural appearance improved. People actively responded to the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas", competing to participate in movements, and together building new rural areas.

The total income is about more than 200 million VND/year.
