On the morning of January 10, the Central Internal Affairs Committee held a conference to review the work of the Party's internal affairs sector and the provincial steering committee for anti-corruption and negativity (steering committee) in 2023, and directions and tasks for 2024.

Reporting at the conference, Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee Vo Van Dung said that although newly established, the provincial steering committees for anti-corruption and negativity have been deployed resolutely and comprehensively, both in preventing and detecting, and handling corruption and negativity.

In 2023, provincial steering committees conducted 212 inspections and supervisions; urgently directed inspections and examinations of topics and cases at the request of the Central Steering Committee and functional agencies at the Central level .

Provincial steering committees have put 260 corruption and negative cases under monitoring and direction. Thus, since its establishment, after more than 1 year, 679 cases have been put under monitoring and direction.

Notably, local authorities have prosecuted 763 new cases and 2,079 defendants for corruption, nearly double that of 2022.

“Many corruption and negative cases that have been pending and prolonged have been directed to be handled. Many localities have prosecuted and investigated major corruption and negative cases, involving both officials under the management of the Central Government and the provincial and municipal Party Committees. Among them, there are former provincial Party secretaries, former chairmen and vice chairmen of the provincial People's Committees, leaders and former leaders of departments, branches, and key leaders at the district level,” Mr. Dung stated.

As evidence, Thanh Hoa province has prosecuted former members of the Party Central Committee, former provincial party secretary, former chairman, vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, and many department directors and district party secretaries. Lao Cai has prosecuted former members of the Party Central Committee, former provincial party secretary, and former chairman of the provincial People's Committee.

Ha Nam prosecuted and investigated 1 former vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, 1 former director and 1 deputy director of the department...

The leader of the Central Internal Affairs Committee also informed that some provincial steering committees have paid attention to directing "anti-corruption and negativity in anti-corruption agencies", directing strict handling of many cases of officials and civil servants in these agencies who have committed corruption and negativity violations.

"That result has confirmed a clear change, a new step forward in the work of detecting and handling corruption and negativity at the local and grassroots levels, increasingly effectively overcoming the situation of "hot above, cold below". Now "hot above" and below are also "heating up", emphasized the Standing Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission.

Regarding the Party's internal affairs sector, according to Mr. Vo Van Dung, in 2023, it has been more in-depth, specific and drastic in advising on including many major corruption and negative cases in the steering committees for monitoring and directing, as well as on policies and orientations for handling a number of serious, complicated corruption and negative cases and incidents that are of public concern.

This ensures both strictness and humaneness, persuasion, in accordance with the direction of the General Secretary, Head of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption and negativity.

Specifically, the Party's internal affairs sector has advised on the issuance of 75 directive documents on policies and guidelines for handling a number of cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Central Steering Committee; advised on the issuance of policies on differentiating the handling of violators in cases and incidents related to Viet A Company, Van Thinh Phat Group, and the field of vehicle inspection, etc.

"Many provincial and municipal Party Committees' internal affairs committees have been courageous and determined, advising the provincial steering committees to comprehensively deploy all aspects of work according to assigned functions and tasks, gradually becoming systematic, methodical, and scientific," the report stated.
