BHG - Clearly identifying its strengths in agricultural development, Mau Due commune (Yen Minh) focuses on expanding its area and building a high-quality rice brand associated with the "One Commune One Product" program. Thereby, developing the rural economy, increasing the value of agricultural products, and increasing people's income.
Arriving at Mau Due commune at the right time when people were urgently taking care of the spring rice crop, we encountered a bustling working atmosphere, farmers excitedly encouraging each other to take advantage of favorable weather conditions to weed and fertilize to help the rice take root quickly and grow well. Rice is known as a long-standing crop, with favorable soil and a cool climate all year round, so it produces products with a characteristic aroma and delicious taste. In particular, with the same variety, Mau Due rice has more grains, is more fragrant, sticky, clear and shiny than other localities.

Developing from the testing of high-quality pure rice varieties, Mau Due commune continues to focus on deploying large model fields, forming commodity production areas and identifying this as the main crop. With favorable natural advantages, proactive water resources, and people with a lot of experience in agricultural production, the rice area in the area is constantly expanded and maintained. Depending on the production seasons of the year, the average area fluctuates from 101 - 170 hectares; concentrated in 7 villages including: Coc Cai, Na Bua, Na Ngoa, Na Don, Na Sai, Tham Tieng, Pac Luy. People have many changes in cultivation, using uniform rice varieties, in which the main focus and creating the brand for Mau Due rice are: Japonica DS1 and Khau Mang.
Comrade Tran Van Thang, Chairman of Mau Due Commune People's Committee, said: In order to exploit the strengths, the locality focuses on building intensive farming models, implementing the "5 together" model fields: Seeds, crop season, care, pest control and harvesting. At the same time, regularly repairing the canal system, supporting people in production from many sources of capital, encouraging mechanization, meeting the stages of land preparation, harvesting and transportation. Commune agricultural extension officers also closely follow the crop season, promptly instructing people to apply good agricultural production processes, increase the use of organic fertilizers, reduce pesticides, and protect the environment. Thanks to that, the rice yield reaches 60 quintals/ha, the total output of the whole commune is over 500 tons/crop, the selling price is over 25 thousand/kg.

From large-scale fields, the people's small-scale production practices are no longer practiced, instead, concentrated commodity areas are formed, increasing productivity, quality and value of rice grains. To organize production effectively, Mau Due commune advocates the establishment of agricultural cooperatives. In particular, Coc Cai Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, owned by Ms. Nguyen Thi Niem, is a typical unit, affirming its role in organizing the linkage of production, processing and consumption of rice. Ms. Niem shared: The cooperative has 5 members, we link up in product consumption and consumption with businesses and traders; on average, we purchase and supply about 5 tons/year to the market. To build a local rice brand and increase value in the market, in 2019, the cooperative's "Mau Due Clean Rice" product achieved 3-star OCOP certification.
With the right and specific orientations in rice development, the rice production situation in Mau Due is stable, food security is ensured, and people's lives have been improved. It can be said that Mau Due rice brand has become a highlight in agricultural production in Yen Minh district. In the coming time, the locality will continue to accompany the people, link production, and consume products; promote the application of science in the cultivation process; have appropriate support policies to help farmers maintain and expand the area.
