The sudden increase in traffic volume caused local congestion on Gianh Bridge. |
Mr. Vo Tuan An (Ba Don Town) said that the road was congested from early morning on April 30, many vehicles traveling from North to South had to take 30 minutes to pass through this section. At 4:15 p.m., the local congestion continued.
Police were present to direct traffic.

Many cars "inched" for nearly 30 minutes to get through this section of road. |
To reduce the load on Gianh Bridge, the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) approved the project to upgrade Gianh Bridge to 4 lanes.
The Gianh Bridge upgrade and repair project started at Km624+799 (Ba Don Town) and ended at Km626+901 (Ha My Commune, Bo Trach District), with a total length of nearly 750m.
The approach roads at both ends of the bridge are designed to be 20.5m wide with 4 lanes for motor vehicles. The bridge itself is 12m wide, with 2 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles.
When completed, Gianh Bridge will increase traffic capacity on National Highway 1A, contributing to promoting socio-economic development for the Northern Quang Binh region.
However, during the construction phase, the old bridge still has to "carry" the entire traffic volume, especially during peak holidays such as April 30 - May 1. Therefore, whenever the number of vehicles suddenly increases, local congestion occurs in this area.
