Ho Chi Minh Square is full of red flags in the early morning sun
Before 6am, when Vinh city had not yet fully awakened after a peaceful night, groups of people poured into Ho Chi Minh Square. The number of people pouring in grew larger and larger, creating a sea of people in the brilliant red of the national flag, the liberation flag, and hearts or flags stuck on the cheeks of children and the chests of adults.
Everyone from the elderly to children eagerly turned to the large LED screen placed solemnly in the square.
“This is the first time I have seen so many people come here so early, the atmosphere is very emotional. It feels like I am living in the historical moments of the past”, a local shared when the program officially began.

On the screen, the image of the grand parade in Ho Chi Minh City appeared clearly. Each rhythmic step of the armed forces, the masses, the veteran formations, the youth, the women… was transmitted live to the square of Uncle Ho’s hometown. Under the screen were many attentive eyes, no one wanted to miss a single detail.
“Today I am very happy to be sitting at Ho Chi Minh Square to watch the live broadcast of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. Our army and people have shed so much blood to make the country what it is today. I hope the younger generation will try to study and work hard to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors,” said Mr. Hoang Van Tien (67 years old).
The most touching moment for many people was when the song “As if Uncle Ho were here on the great victory day” was sung by the people here in unison. The familiar song, which had resounded throughout the South in 1975, now echoed in the square of Uncle Ho’s hometown, sung along by the people of Nghe An.

“It was wonderful to stand in front of the big screen to watch the live broadcast. Especially when everyone sang the song about Uncle Ho in unison, I couldn’t help but choke up. I would like to thank the Party, the State, Uncle Ho and our ancestors for bringing peace to our country,” said Nguyen Thi Hong (78 years old) emotionally.
Also at the square, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh (80 years old), a veteran who directly participated in the 1975 spring campaign, said: “We have fought all our lives to have peaceful moments like this. Today's young generation needs to know that the country did not have peace naturally. Blood and tears were exchanged for April 30. I hope that my children and grandchildren will always remember the past.”

The atmosphere of excitement spread everywhere. Mr. Nguyen Huu Son (49 years old) said: “This morning before the program took place, I held the liberation flag and ran around the square to welcome the grand ceremony. When the program started, I joined everyone to clearly feel the historical atmosphere. I am very proud and grateful to the previous generation for bringing the country to what it is today.”

When the program ended, many people still lingered, taking souvenir photos together, talking and laughing. That bustling atmosphere carried with it gratitude for the past and hope for the future, a future where the spirit of April 30 will always be remembered, not only through history lessons, but also through vivid moments in everyday life like this morning.
The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is not only a national event, but also an opportunity for every Vietnamese person, wherever they are, to relive the heroic flow of history. And at Ho Chi Minh Square on the morning of April 30 this year, that flow has become a source of inspiration that spreads, quietly but deeply, to every heart of the people of Nghe An.
