The road bridge project across the Red River bordering Bat Xat (Vietnam) - Ba Sai (China) is an important project with a total investment of 1,500 billion VND.
The bridge construction site is located at Ban Vuoc border gate, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, about 700m downstream of milestone 97 (2) of the Red River. This is the fourth bridge built in the Lao Cai border gate economic zone (Ho Kieu Bridge I, II, Kim Thanh Bridge).

The road bridge was started to be built as a result of the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of the People's Republic of China on the joint construction of a road bridge across the Red River in the border area of Bat Xat, Lao Cai province (Vietnam) - Ba Sai, Yunnan province (China), Lao Cai province (Vietnam) and Yunnan province (China).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Standing Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Hoang Quoc Khanh affirmed: Lao Cai authorities determined that the investment in the construction of this bridge is very important and necessary, not only to connect the transport infrastructure between the two countries but also to affirm the role of the trade gateway of Lao Cai province on the Kunming - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh economic corridor; the center of economic trade connection between Vietnam and ASEAN countries with the Southwest region of China. When the bridge is completed, it will contribute to Lao Cai's development to be worthy of being the "growth pole" of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region, a "bridge" connecting Vietnam with the vast Southwest region of China; creating momentum to promote economic development between the two provinces of Lao Cai - Yunnan as well as between the two countries of Vietnam and China.

This project is a testament to the efforts of both Vietnam and China in implementing the common perception of the two countries' senior leaders in the Vietnam-China Joint Statement on "cooperation in building infrastructure and transport connectivity, accelerating the promotion of border infrastructure connectivity" as well as the determination of the Vietnamese and Chinese governments in developing the transport infrastructure system in the border area, towards a region of sustainable development, peace and prosperity.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan said that the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction will closely coordinate with relevant agencies of Lao Cai province and relevant agencies of China to ensure that the project is deployed, constructed, and put into use on schedule, meeting the highest technical and quality standards.

We believe that with the determination of Lao Cai Province, the close coordination between the authorities of Vietnam and China, and the support of the people of both sides, the project will be completed on schedule and soon put into operation, serving socio-economic development.
The project of the Road Bridge across the Red River at the border of Bat Xat (Vietnam) - Ba Sai (China) has the following scale and main design:
The main bridge over the Red River is a low-tower cable-stayed bridge, with a span diagram of 3 spans and a length of 230m; the girder is made of prestressed reinforced concrete constructed using the cantilever method combined with fan-shaped cable-stayed structures, the tower is 20m high from the bridge deck; the bridge is 35.3m wide (including the width of the tower).
Each side will invest in building half of the main bridge, 115m long. The bridge and approach road on the Vietnamese side, 40m long, is made of prestressed reinforced concrete box girders; the road at the bridgehead, 232m long, 35m wide, 25m wide; the total investment cost on the Vietnamese side is about 282 billion VND.
