Attending the handover ceremony of the "CCB's affection" house of CCB Le Thi Vi, a member of the CCB Association of La Residential Group, Tan Thanh Town, we could see the joy of receiving a new house. Receiving us in the new house, Ms. Le Thi Vi shared: For many years, due to poor health, difficult economic circumstances, and being a member of a near-poor household, although I had to live in an unsafe house, I did not have the conditions to repair it, let alone dream of rebuilding the dilapidated house. With sympathy for my family's situation, the Thanh Liem District CCB Association helped my family build a new house with an area of over 50m2, the project value was over 150 million VND, of which the Thanh Liem District CCB Association supported 50 million VND, the rest was from the family and the labor of relatives and neighbors. Now living in a solid, warm house, my family and I feel really secure, life is gradually stabilizing.
Talking to us about the movement to eliminate temporary and unsafe houses for war veterans with difficult housing conditions, Mr. Vu Ngoc Khoan, Chairman of the War Veterans Association of Thanh Liem district, said: The entire association currently has more than 7,000 members, operating in 105 branches. Besides members with a good and wealthy life, there are still many members with difficult circumstances living in temporary and unsafe houses. With the determination not to let members live in temporary and unsafe houses, in recent years, the War Veterans Association at all levels in the district has promoted propaganda work to raise awareness, arouse team spirit, solidarity, mutual love; promote the movement to build a teammate affection fund, combined with other sources of capital to repair and build new houses for members who do not have the conditions to build houses.
Every year, based on surveys and assessments of the housing situation of members' families in especially difficult circumstances, the District Veterans Association mobilizes members to contribute at least 10,000 VND/member/year to raise the "Comradely Love" fund and actively mobilizes businesses and philanthropists to participate. The campaign has received support from cadres and members and has increasingly spread widely. From 2019 to present, cadres and members of the District Veterans Association have donated over 300 million VND to repair and build 8 "Comradely Love" houses for members in difficult circumstances; Associations at all levels coordinate with the District Fatherland Front Committee to build 11 houses for poor families of War Veterans in difficult circumstances with a total amount of over 800 million VND; Calling on businesswoman Tran Thi Loan to support 100 million VND to repair and build 2 charity houses for war veterans in especially difficult circumstances... These charity activities have motivated war veterans in difficult circumstances to rise up in life and partly helped them settle down. In particular, to help war veterans in difficult circumstances with capital for investment in production and business, the association has effectively exploited and managed capital from the Social Policy Bank to help thousands of members borrow a total amount of more than 100 billion VND. From this capital source, many members have boldly established effective economic development models for production and business, bringing in hundreds of millions of VND in income each year, contributing to reducing the rate of poor war veterans' households of the association to 0.29%, the number of well-off and rich households reaching over 70%; at the same time, reducing the rate of war veterans' households facing housing difficulties.
