Hang Dong has 522 households, more than 3,300 people, of which 99.9% are Mong ethnic people. The poverty rate accounts for 54%, people's income mainly depends on traditional agriculture and forestry. Mr. Ho A Mang, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The commune focuses on propaganda and mobilization so that people understand and actively participate in national target programs, not missing the opportunity to escape poverty. In addition, the commune focuses on building economic development models suitable to the actual conditions and potential of the locality. Many infrastructure investment projects have been implemented according to plan, ensuring publicity, transparency, the right purpose and the right target, actively contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction.
In 2024, the commune will be allocated many capital sources to implement sustainable poverty reduction programs, build new rural areas and socio-economic development programs for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. Notably, Project 3 supports the development of community production. Accordingly, the commune will implement a model of breeding cows with a total capital of nearly 4 billion VND. In addition, Project 4 focuses on investing in essential infrastructure, with nearly 2 billion VND, allocated in 3 phases. This amount will be used to maintain and repair roads and works serving people's lives, and the project is expected to be completed in 2025.
Mr. Hang A Thong, Party cell secretary and head of Lang Sang village, shared: The people in the village mainly live on high ground. In the past, every time it rained heavily, the roads were slippery and vehicles could not enter the village. Children had to walk for several hours to go to school, and it was also very difficult to take sick people to the medical station. Now, the medical stations and schools have been solidly built, making it easier for children to go to school. Especially, the road from the village to the commune has been concreted, making travel very convenient.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Thuc, Head of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Bac Yen district, said: For poor households in Hang Dong commune who are lacking land for production, many households have a need to change their occupations, and have proposed to be supported with machinery and equipment for agricultural production and services. On that basis, the district proactively provides agricultural tools according to the needs and wishes of the people. By the end of 2024, the district had supported people with 16 multi-purpose tillers, 8 pesticide sprayers, 8 weed cutters, 7 rice milling machines and 7 mini rice threshers. The equipment has initially shown its effectiveness, helping people improve labor productivity, generate more income and stabilize their lives.
Ms. Thao Thi Kia, Hang Dong village, shared: The whole village was supported with 16 agricultural machines, everyone was excited. My family alone was supported with a rice milling machine, both for family use and for service provision to generate more income to develop the economy and escape poverty. Thank you to the Party and State for caring and helping the people in the highlands.
In 2025, Hang Dong commune will continue to coordinate, review, and implement projects, sub-projects, components, and tasks of the National Target Programs. Integrate capital sources, focus on solving the most urgent problems, prioritize support for poor households, ethnic minorities with many difficulties, especially groups with special circumstances, etc., contribute to promoting production and creating conditions for sustainable livelihood development for the people.
