STO - On the morning of April 10, at the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to listen to relevant units introduce the Mekong Delta Climate Resilience and Integrated Transformation Project (Merit - WB11). Attending were leaders of relevant departments and branches; leaders of the People's Committees of Long Phu, My Xuyen and Tran De districts.

The Merit Project is owned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, sponsored by the World Bank and the Australian Government, with a total investment of VND 6,579 billion. The project implementation location includes provinces in the Dong Thap Muoi region, the Southwest, the center of the Ca Mau peninsula, including Soc Trang province.

According to the Central Management Board of Irrigation Projects, in Soc Trang province, the Merit Project will implement Sub-project 2.3, planning to build Dai Ngai sluice gate on the Saintard River, 1,600m inside the Saintard Canal from Dai Ngai Bridge (Long Duc Commune, Long Phu District) and My Xuyen sluice gate on the Bai Xao River, about 2,200m north of Du Tho intersection (Tham Don Commune, My Xuyen District). Sub-project 2.3 implementation period is from 2026 to 2031. The objective of Sub-project 2.3 is to control water resources to ensure stable service and long-term agricultural production conversion, enhance resilience, and adapt to extreme conditions of climate change for the Long Phu - Tiep Nhat project area, with an area of ​​about 51,500ha; flood prevention due to high tides for the entire project area, including 2 concentrated urban areas, Soc Trang city and My Xuyen town, with an area of ​​about 9,000 hectares. Utilizing the canal system in the project area to circulate and store fresh water in the dry season, serving agricultural production and domestic water for people in and around the project area. Creating a stable source of raw surface water to replace the current underground water source serving domestic water supply and other water needs of localities in the project area in Soc Trang province...

Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam commented that when two more boat locks are built in Soc Trang province, it will contribute to the operation of the boat lock sluice system in the province more flexibly; at the same time, it will create connections between the boat locks of the province and the provinces in the Mekong Delta in getting fresh water, serving agricultural production and people's daily life, contributing to the development of many fields in the province. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the districts: Long Phu, My Xuyen and Tran De to review and supplement the district's planning on land, bridges, and roads where Sub-project 2.3 will be implemented and if there are any difficulties or problems, please contact related units for support.
