Vung Ang Expressway - Construction on the rise during the holidays

While everyone is starting the long April 30 and May 1 holidays with family, relatives and friends, on bridge No. 1 of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway project in Ky Hoa commune, Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province, engineers and workers of Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company are still busy making steel for the bridge deck, pouring concrete for piers and abutments before installing bridge girders for the final spans.

Bridge No. 1 is nearly 1km long, connecting two hills across the valley, the basin terrain in Ky Hoa commune, Ky Anh town, with a total investment of 300 billion VND. The bridge has 22 spans with piers 30 - 40m high, in particular, there is a pier nearly 50m high, therefore, the construction process of bridge No. 1 is very complicated, requiring careful construction planning and careful calculation.

To date, the contractor has completed 16/22 bridge spans. Despite great efforts, the construction output has not been as expected compared to the plan. In the context of the Ministry of Construction requesting the opening of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway on June 30, shortening the project completion progress by 2 months compared to the plan (September 30), the contractor has arranged human resources, machinery and construction equipment during the holidays.

Not only "working overtime", the contractor also hired large cranes to speed up the work of placing beams - a job that requires a lot of time and effort in bridge construction.

“Although we had to work during the holidays, the engineers, workers, and operators encouraged each other to work together. The construction of the three North-South Expressway projects through Ha Tinh was carried out at almost the same time, of which the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi and Ham Nghi - Vung Ang sections were put into operation on April 28, so the unit strived to complete the first bridge section, contributing to the Vung Ang - Bung Expressway section being opened on June 30,” shared engineer Luong Huu Bay from Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company.

The busy and urgent working atmosphere during the April 30 and May 1 holidays is also present in the construction projects of Son Hai Group Company Limited. At this time, the contractor has basically completed the second layer of asphalt concrete (C19) for the 5km main route of Vung Ang - Bung expressway that this unit is undertaking the construction.

In the next few days, this contractor will deploy the C16 asphalt concrete layer - the final asphalt concrete layer of the highway surface.

Along with that, Son Hai contractor is also urgently completing the Deo But road tunnel - a critical road item of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway, with a total investment of more than 1,000 billion VND.

Deo But Tunnel has 2 tunnels, of which the left tunnel is 716m long, the right tunnel is 840m long. Up to now, after many construction efforts, the right tunnel serving phase 1 of the project has completed 95% of the volume with concrete paving the tunnel surface, installing electrical systems, fire protection, cable trays for laying electric wires, ensuring the route is opened on June 30.

The contractor is also focusing on drilling the left tunnel. According to the contractor's calculations, there are currently about 100,000m3 of rock and soil ^left to be dug through the left tunnel. To ensure safety during construction, the contractor is deploying machinery and manpower to reinforce the roof of the southern tunnel entrance of the left tunnel.

"To help our employees feel secure during the holidays, the unit promptly arranges salary and bonus policies for engineers and workers and regularly encourages everyone to strive for the overall progress of the project," said Mr. Do Hoai Duong - construction manager of the Deo But tunnel project (contractor Son Hai).

The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway component project is 55.34km long, with a total investment of VND12,540 billion, of which the section through Ha Tinh is 12.9km long and the section through Quang Binh province is 42.44km long. The starting point of the project is at the intersection of Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province, connecting to Ham Nghi - Vung Ang Expressway; the ending point is at Cu Nam commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, connecting to Bung - Van Ninh Expressway.

According to the plan, the Vung Ang - Bung expressway was completed on September 30. However, with adjacent expressways such as Bai Vot - Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang or Bung - Van Ninh already open and put into operation, the Ministry of Construction requested that the Vung Ang - Bung expressway must be completed by June 30 to ensure synchronous connection.
