Speaking to VietNamNet, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Earth Sciences (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), said the earthquake that occurred in Myanmar was very large.

Accordingly, at 1:20 p.m. on March 28, an earthquake occurred in Myanmar at coordinates 21.71N - 96.02E. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale, with a focal depth of 10km. Therefore, the affected area was very large.

“Hanoi is an area with many high-rise buildings. Normally, high-rise buildings are easily affected and shaken by distant earthquakes,” Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh explained.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, because this was a distant earthquake, Hanoi and some other localities were not affected. However, he warned: "People still need to monitor and be careful."

Currently, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center is continuing to closely monitor the situation.

Regarding this earthquake, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has just announced that a 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in central Myanmar. In India, people can also feel the tremors.

The USGS said the earthquake occurred 16km northwest of Sagaing town, Myanmar, at a depth of 10km at around 12:50 local time this afternoon (March 28).

Similarly, in Thailand, preliminary reports said that alarm bells rang in high-rise buildings in the Thai capital Bangkok at around 1:30 p.m. Residents and guests staying in apartment buildings and hotels in Bangkok ran into the streets in panic.

The quake was so strong that water was splashed in swimming pools in high-rise buildings. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

On Chinese social media, many people in Yunnan and Shaanxi said they also felt the tremors.

In Vietnam, at around 1:30 p.m. today, many people living in apartment buildings in Thanh Xuan, Ha Dong, and Hai Ba Trung districts (Hanoi) felt their houses shaking and felt dizzy as if their blood pressure had dropped.

A representative of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center (Institute of Earth Sciences) said that at 1:20 p.m. the same day, an earthquake occurred at coordinates 21.71N - 96.02E, with a focal depth of 10km in Myanmar, affecting Vietnam.

"The disaster risk level is level 0," said a representative of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center.
