High precision
In early March 2025, the Provincial General Hospital put into operation the Olympus EVIS X1 CV1500 endoscopy system, the most modern and advanced in the world today. With the outstanding advantage of increasing the ability to display blood vessels and detailed mucosal structures of small lesions of only a few millimeters, the Olympus EVIS X1 CV1500 endoscopy system is also equipped with an accompanying artificial intelligence system to support the rapid identification of suspected lesions, especially cancer and precancer. Thereby, helping doctors detect microscopic abnormalities, accurately and earlier tracing lesions, ulcers, polyps, gastrointestinal tumors, early detection of cancer, supporting accurate diagnosis of complex diseases...

Suffering from bloating and prolonged indigestion, Mr. NTT (45 years old, Nha Trang City) thought it was due to his habit of skipping meals and eating irregularly, so he subjectively did not go to the doctor. At the end of March, suffering from severe abdominal pain, Mr. T. went to the provincial General Hospital for examination and was prescribed a gastric endoscopy. At the Endoscopy Unit, Mr. T. was endoscopyed using the Olympus EVIS X1 CV1500 endoscopy system. During the endoscopy process, with the support of AI equipment, the doctor discovered a small lesion in the antrum - easily missed if observed using previous generation endoscopy systems. Electronic staining and magnification technology helped the doctor see more clearly the abnormalities in the mucosa. Mr. T. was prescribed a biopsy and the biopsy results confirmed that it was early stage gastric cancer. Mr. T. was treated with the ESD method - endoscopic submucosal dissection of the stomach, completely removing the tumor without surgery.
Specialist Doctor I Cap Thi Thanh Thuy - Digestive Endoscopy Unit, Provincial General Hospital said that before putting the machine into operation, the team of doctors of the unit had been continuously trained through training sessions, scientific conferences... on AI application in endoscopy. Compared to previous generation endoscopes, the Olympus EVIS X1 CV1500 endoscopy system with the support of AI equipment helps doctors identify abnormal changes in the mucosa and suspicious areas. At the same time, AI helps assess the characteristics of the lesion, classify benign or malignant based on data from millions of endoscopic images. This helps doctors have a clear scientific basis to make accurate treatment decisions. The AI device can also assess and warn of areas that have not been thoroughly examined to ensure comprehensive endoscopy effectiveness.
In early 2025, Hospital 22-12 invested in the Olympus EVIS X1 CV1500 endoscopy system integrated with automatic AI for the hospital's Digestive Endoscopy Center. Specialist II Cao Nguyen Dinh - Deputy Director of Hospital 22-12 said: "The Olympus EVIS X1 CV-1500 endoscopy system integrated with AI helps doctors observe all abnormalities of the digestive tract, thereby accurately diagnosing the nature of the lesion, improving treatment results, bringing hope to patients, especially gastrointestinal cancer".
Towards AI applications in many fields
Currently, the need for screening, diagnosis and treatment of people is increasing; along with the development of MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and CT Scan (computerized tomography) systems... providing images with very high resolution and detail, the scale of image data processing in clinical diagnosis is very large. Doctors and technicians have to spend a lot of time analyzing images and drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, optimizing the workflow and minimizing errors in diagnosis is an important factor. With the ability to analyze details and recognize complex patterns, AI can help doctors shorten processing time, speed up diagnosis with more accurate findings, especially some lesions or pathological signs that are very small or hidden deep in the body structure, difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Specialist Doctor II Phan Huu Chinh - Director of the Provincial General Hospital affirmed: "Following the development trend of science and technology, AI will be strongly applied in the medical field in the coming time. Along with the orientation of developing in-depth expertise, the Provincial General Hospital is aiming to become a regional hospital in the South Central Coast. Therefore, in addition to investing in the Olympus EVIS X1 CV1500 endoscopy system equipped with AI, this year, the Provincial General Hospital will organize a bidding to purchase software for image diagnosis applying basic AI in endoscopy and X-ray for diseases of the brain, liver, spine, lungs...". According to specialist Doctor II Cao Nguyen Dinh, in the future, Hospital 22-12 will move towards applying AI in CT Scan, X-ray and in patient classification, helping to shorten the waiting time of patients.
Considered a powerful "assistant" to doctors, the application of AI in diagnosis and treatment in some hospitals has marked a major step forward in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment. At the same time, it affirms the goal of hospitals in providing high-quality medical services, serving patients best.
