According to the History of the Party Committee of Giong Trom District, in April 1975, applying the Special Resolution of the 15th Central Committee Conference (March 29, 1975), the Provincial Party Committee issued a Directive: Urgently organize political and armed forces with a leap in scale, form a tight team, seize the opportunity to win complete victory. According to the combat plan, Battalions 263 and 516 together with the Special Forces Company were sent to Giong Trom. On the night of April 29, 1975, Battalion 263 and the Special Forces Company attacked Luong Quoi Sub-region and 3 outposts on traffic route 26, destroyed Chet Say bridge, and opened a front to destroy reinforcements at Dong Go. On the morning of April 30, 1975, Kien Hoa Sub-region sent 4 security battalions to relieve the situation, we blocked and destroyed 1 company at Truong Ga road.

When Saigon was liberated, in the province, Colonel Pham Chi Kim - the Provincial Chief and District Chief stubbornly ordered a death-defying defense. Taking advantage of the enemy's confusion and disarray, our army stepped up military propaganda work, calling on officers and soldiers to surrender. In Luong Quoi (Giong Trom), our army persuaded the commune chief, the sub-district chief, a warrant officer in the sub-district, a second lieutenant - Chief of the police and a militia platoon leader to hand over the sub-district and a post to the revolution at 11:00 a.m. on April 30, 1975. After that, we used this force to persuade one post in Binh Hoa and one post in Chau Hoa commune to surrender.

In all communes in the area, from the evening of April 30, 1975, guerrillas and the masses simultaneously rushed to force the withdrawal and surrender of the local police stations. On the morning of May 1, 1975, our armed forces took over the district headquarters, the Giong Trom sub-region and the enemy's offices.

Over the past 50 years since the war, Giong Trom has gradually developed. According to Secretary of the Giong Trom District Party Committee Nguyen Thai Binh, the work of Party building and political system building has been focused on and regularly consolidated. Secretary of the Giong Trom District Party Committee Nguyen Thai Binh added: On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, with the consensus and support of the district's Party members, the district has carried out the project of installing LED lights on martyrs' graves in 2 martyrs' cemeteries in Giong Trom district with 3,393 martyrs' graves (costing over 73 million VND) and built a house "Comradely affection" (costing 90 million VND) contributed by Party members in the Party Committee. In addition, the district has republished and supplemented the book "History of the Giong Trom District Party Committee for the period 1930 - 2025"; made a documentary film Giong Trom - Heroic Steel Land and published publications and songs about Giong Trom...

According to Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW dated April 12, 2025 of the 13th Party Central Committee, there are only 2 months left to complete the operation of the district-level administrative units, and the new commune-level administrative units will come into operation from July 1, 2025.
