The acceptance team of Quang Tri commune accepted 5,000 m2 of crop conversion of Mr. Pham Van Luong's family.

The family of Mr. Pham Van Luong (59 years old, residing in Hamlet 4, Quang Tri Commune) has just been approved by the inspection team of the commune government to be eligible to convert crops on an area of 5,000 m2 with a support level of 5 million VND/ha of converted crops. Mr. Luong said that previously, on 5 sao of swampy, alum-contaminated land, his family grew some short-term crops but the efficiency was not high. About a year ago, he decided to switch to growing mangosteen. The new crop is growing quite well, and it is expected to bear fruit in about a year. "Some local households have grown this type of fruit tree effectively, with stable and high output, so I boldly switched. With the support and encouragement from the locality, my family hopes that the crop conversion will soon bring higher economic value," Mr. Luong shared.

Mr. Ha Vinh Du - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Commune People's Committee said that with the goal of continuing to shift the crop structure to a more reasonable and effective one with the whole district, in 2025, Quang Tri commune registered to convert 58.2 hectares, a sharp increase compared to 2024 (20 hectares). The crops after being reviewed and accepted to meet the conversion conditions of farmers are mainly from low-efficiency crop areas under 50 million VND/ha/year to crops such as durian, coffee, mangosteen, rambutan, ... with the district's support level of 8 million VND per hectare for durian, the remaining crops are supported to convert 5 million VND/ha.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Huoai district said that the conversion of crop structure is a task that has been carried out continuously and consistently over the past many years. For example, in 2021, the locality focused on converting 127 hectares of rubber to fruit trees in the direction of intensive farming to increase productivity and product quality and more than 995.6 hectares of old cashew trees to grow durian, orange, jackfruit trees... with higher economic value. During the year, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province issued a decision to recognize the high-tech durian production area of Ha Lam commune with a scale of 300 hectares, creating a new breakthrough in restructuring the cultivation of the entire local agricultural sector.

In 2025 alone, the plan to transfer science and technology in agricultural production and support crop conversion to improve economic efficiency and sustainable development sets out to convert about 884.62 hectares of inefficient land to high-efficiency crops with a total estimated support of over 6.5 billion VND from the budget for implementing agricultural programs under the local economic sector. Specifically, the most converted areas are grafted durian (over 545 hectares), coffee (145.8 hectares), rubber (105.3 hectares), other crops (60.53 hectares) and mulberry (27.77 hectares).

In particular, Da Huoai focuses on propagating and guiding people to convert crops by investing in water-saving irrigation systems to ensure adaptation to climate change. At the same time, it disseminates, guides, trains, and raises awareness and skills for farmers on crop varieties (new varieties, grafted varieties, etc.) as well as technical processes for planting, caring, harvesting, preventing and controlling pests; agricultural production according to food safety and environmental protection standards (VietGAP, organic), traceability, building growing area codes; applying advanced and modern equipment in production.

In addition, the district has been building models of application and transfer of science and technology, with suitable conditions for people to refer to, develop and replicate in the area such as: Intensive farming model to increase coffee productivity, Model of preventing stem cracking and gummosis on durian trees, Demonstration model of A Sao glutinous rice variety and Demonstration model of new rice variety HG12.

According to the assessment of the district's agricultural sector, crop restructuring is one of the important solutions to restructure the agricultural sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development. After 3 years of implementing the restructuring of ineffective crops to other crops, it has brought about positive economic efficiency, helping farmers know how to exploit land resources reasonably, apply scientific and technical advances in production, and at the same time use mechanization to reduce labor in agriculture, aiming to build a modern and sustainable agriculture.
