Hung Yen longan crop 2025: Output exceeds 50,000 tons, over 60% meets VietGAP and organic standards

Nested label affirms brand, expands export market

According to the report of the People's Committee of Hung Yen province at the Conference on Promoting the Consumption of Longan and Agricultural Products of Hung Yen in 2025 held on August 20, the whole province currently has about 5,800 hectares of longan. Of which, 15 - 20% of the area is for precious specialty longan varieties such as rock sugar longan, ancient flesh longan - fruits famous for their sweet taste, thick flesh, small seeds, grown mainly in Hong Chau, Tan Hung, Duc Hop, Hong Quang, Khoai Chau, Chau Ninh, Trieu Viet Vuong...

These are areas with suitable soil and favorable climate, and the people here also have a long tradition and experience in cultivation. Thanks to that, Hung Yen longan is not only delicious but also has stable productivity, favored by domestic and international markets.

The 2025 longan crop is divided into three main crops: Early-ripening longan harvested before July 30, accounting for about 10% of the area; Main-ripening longan harvested from August 1 to 30, accounting for about 50% of the area; Late-ripening longan: harvested from August 30 to September 20, accounting for about 40% of the area.

With this structure, Hung Yen people can extend the supply season, avoiding the rush that leads to price drops. In particular, thanks to favorable weather conditions, this year's output is expected to increase by about 15% compared to last year, reaching more than 50,000 tons of fruit.

Notably, over 60% of the output is certified VietGAP and organic, meeting the strict requirements of high-end markets such as the US, EU, and Japan, while continuing to maintain exports to China - a large consumer market.

Hung Yen longan has been granted geographical indication and is in the Top 50 famous fruits of Vietnam. This is the pride of Hung Yen people for many generations. Maintaining quality and affirming the brand not only has economic significance but also contributes to preserving the unique cultural values of the Northern Delta region.

Hung Yen signs cooperation agreement on consumption of longan and agricultural products, towards sustainable chain linkage

In recent years, Hung Yen has successfully organized many longan festivals and longan weeks in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces, and actively participated in online promotion conferences with international markets. Thanks to that, Hung Yen longan has been gradually opening its doors to the world .

One of the highlights of this year’s conference is the signing ceremony of cooperation agreements on the consumption of Hung Yen longan and agricultural products today (August 20). The conference creates links between cooperatives, gardeners with distribution and processing enterprises and e-commerce platforms. These agreements are expected to create a sustainable chain of links, ensuring stable output and increasing product value.

Mr. Bui Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) assessed Hung Yen as one of the leading provinces in organizing the promotion of agricultural product consumption. He suggested that Hung Yen should continue to: Build and promote the brand more strongly; Standardize production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic. Along with that, it is necessary to diversify products and deep processing, instead of just selling fresh fruit, connecting logistics and e-commerce to expand export markets.

Hung Yen provincial leaders emphasized that the locality is committed to creating an open and transparent investment environment, while supporting farmers and businesses in terms of technology, varieties, and trade promotion. The long-term goal is to build a green and sustainable agricultural region, linking products with QR codes for traceability, and enhancing the confidence of domestic and foreign consumers.
