Vietnam and Laos maintain high-level contacts and multi-field cooperation mechanisms

NDO - On the morning of April 16, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on the occasion of attending the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit in Hanoi, from April 15 to 17, 2025.

On behalf of the Vietnamese National Assembly, once again, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent his deepest condolences to the Lao Party, National Assembly, Government and people, especially Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his family; emphasizing that the passing of comrade Khamtay Siphandone is an extremely great loss to Laos and the Vietnam-Laos relationship; hoping that Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his family as well as the Lao National Assembly, Government and people will soon overcome this grief.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated and thanked the Lao Prime Minister for leading the Lao high-ranking delegation to attend the 4th P4G Summit in Vietnam; actively contributing to the overall success of the Conference. He congratulated the great and comprehensive achievements that the Lao Party, State and people have achieved in implementing the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress and the 9th Socio-Economic Development Plan for the 2021-2025 period, and firmly believed that under the wise leadership of the Party, Laos will successfully organize the 12th Party Congress in 2026.

The National Assembly Chairman expressed his joy that the Vietnam-Laos relationship continues to develop comprehensively in all areas; wished to promote the relationship between the two countries; affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly will closely coordinate with the Lao National Assembly to promote the improvement of institutions and policies, creating a favorable legal corridor for the two governments to effectively implement high-level agreements, investment cooperation projects between the two countries as well as the contents agreed upon by the two governments. Lao Prime Minister Sonxay Siphandone expressed his deep gratitude to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for his condolences on the passing of comrade Khamtay Siphandone.

The Lao Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and National Assembly Chairman Xaysomphone Phomvihan to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; expressed his impression of Vietnam's great and comprehensive achievements, as well as Vietnam's increasingly enhanced position and role in international forums, especially appreciating Vietnam's role in organizing this P4G Summit. Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone sincerely thanked Vietnam for its great, timely and effective assistance to Laos over the past time.

The Lao Prime Minister agreed with the assessment of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on the Vietnam-Laos relationship, and affirmed to continue to resolutely direct Lao ministries and branches to resolutely implement the agreements reached at the meeting of the two Politburoes and the results of the recent 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee to promote cooperation in all fields of politics-foreign affairs-national security-defense, investment-trade, transport connectivity, focusing on creating new changes in economic, cultural, educational, health and scientific-technical cooperation; improving the effectiveness of investment cooperation; especially focusing on completing important cooperation projects committed in the past time.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone emphasized the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, which is “unique” in the world, and expressed their joy at the important results achieved in the relationship between the two countries in recent times, especially the continued enhancement of political trust through regular high-level exchanges and contacts and cooperation mechanisms in many fields. Defense and security cooperation continues to be an important pillar of bilateral relations. Economic, trade and investment cooperation has grown strongly, while education and training, culture, science and technology, tourism and people-to-people exchange have continued to be strongly promoted.
