According to the Korea Times, DL E&C Construction Company is researching the installation of a separate fire suppression system for the electric vehicle parking area at the underground parking lot of the e-Pyeonhansesang apartment complex to prevent fires caused by electric vehicles (EVs).

The move comes as more electric vehicles in South Korea are banned from underground parking lots due to fire risks. When the central control system detects a fire, a fire extinguisher is deployed and moves underneath the burning electric vehicle. It then drills a hole under the battery pack within two minutes and sprays water to extinguish the fire. In total, it takes about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire.
Bando E&C has previously developed its own system to deal with electric vehicle fires, combining a fire extinguisher with a ventilation fan. The company says lightweight fire shields placed near the charger help extinguish fires more quickly. In addition, the ventilation fan removes toxic gases from the underground parking lot as soon as the sensor detects a fire. In addition, a growing number of corporate buildings and apartment complexes have banned electric vehicles from being parked in their underground garages.
