Actively attract learners, improve training quality

A leader of the Academy of Finance shared that more than 10 years ago, the school "stood still" waiting for students to come. Especially large schools with attractiveness and abundant recruitment sources were closed like "ivory towers". But now, we have had to change our thinking, proactively open up to promote, even go to localities, to high schools to introduce and provide information.

"Even without advertising, the school can still meet its enrollment quota. But proactive communication will help the school attract students who truly want it and are capable of meeting its training goals. This is also a way to improve training quality. The story of 'marketing' is not just the work of sluggish training facilities," said the above leader.

Dr. Dong Van Ngoc, Principal of Hanoi College of Electromechanics, one of the vocational schools with stable enrollment over the past years, shared: For many years, the school has committed to students "If after graduation they cannot find a job in the field they studied, the school will refund all tuition fees paid to the school".

We do not just make empty commitments but must build programs that meet business needs, connect with businesses for joint training, and provide an environment for students to practice... However, if we do not proactively introduce training policies and orientations, many young people will not know about them. In the past, many young people were willing to study at an unknown university with an unsuitable major instead of studying at a vocational college, but now the opposite has happened, many students have passed the university entrance exam but choose us.

Foreign Trade University, National Economics University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology… are among the large training institutions with very high annual admission scores. However, representatives of these schools all believe that sharing as much information as possible with parents and high school students is one of the best ways to provide early career guidance to avoid students lacking information and making the wrong choice.

"Studying at a school with a 'brand name' may not help young people succeed if it is not suitable and does not give them the motivation to study thoroughly," said Ms. Vu Thi Hien, Vice Principal of Foreign Trade University.

Although it cannot be denied that providing information to candidates is necessary, besides the positive factors, this also has negative aspects when the competition to attract students is common, especially in schools with low attractiveness and private schools.

There are schools that announce policies to reward money, reward laptops for students with high admission scores, students who register for admission according to some priority methods. Along with scholarships, bonuses, are advertisements about facilities. Some schools introduce international student exchange programs...

However, the attractive incentive policies that are often communicated are not true to reality. "It is true that there is a scholarship policy, but the amount of scholarship that students receive is very small compared to the total scholarship fund announced by the school because the fund is divided into many different programs and does not cover tuition and other expenses when entering the school," a student shared about the school he attended.

This student confessed that in a situation where he had no clear direction about his career, he chose a school that announced an attractive scholarship but in reality it was not as the school announced.

Similarly, many students are also attracted by "international student exchange" programs with the UK, US, Australia... but when they start studying, they find out that "exchange" programs are only implemented with universities with foreign elements in Vietnam, foreign enterprises in Vietnam...

Take advantage of recruitment sources with strange recruitment combinations

In 2025, many training institutions will still announce 10-15 different admission combinations. It is worth mentioning that there are many strange combinations. The medical industry often recruits students with the traditional combination of Math, Chemistry, Biology, in which Chemistry and Biology are considered important subjects. But currently, some schools recruit students for the medical and pharmaceutical industries without Chemistry or Biology. Or Biotechnology, but the admission combination does not include Biology, such as Phan Chau Trinh University; the medical industry of Hoa Binh University (Hanoi) in addition to recruiting Math - Chemistry - Biology also recruits the combinations of Math - Literature - English, Math - Physics - Chemistry, Math - Physics - English, Literature - Math - Geography.

Van Lang University also recruits many strange combinations for the health sector, including medicine with odd combinations such as Math - Chemistry - Economic and Legal Education; Math - Chemistry - Technology...

Some pedagogical schools admit students with combinations that do not have the main subject that matches the training program. For example, Thu Do University admits students for the Physics pedagogical program with a combination that does not include Physics. Some other schools use the combination of Math - Literature - English to admit students for majors such as Physics pedagogy, Chemistry, History, etc.

In the Agriculture - Forestry - Fisheries sector, there are schools that recruit students for biopharmaceutical technology and biotechnology with the combination of Math - Chemistry - English, Math - Physics - English, Math - Literature - English. These combinations lack Biology, which is considered the main subject of this group of majors.

Explaining this, school representatives said that it was a way to "create more opportunities for candidates and ensure fairness in accessing universities". However, behind this "humane" reason is the goal of maximizing opportunities to attract students to ensure enrollment targets.

This not only causes the consequence of unstable input quality but also increases the number of candidates choosing the wrong career.
