On the afternoon of November 29, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Justice organized a workshop on "Promoting digital transformation of the press to contribute to effectively serving the operations of the Ministry and the Justice sector".
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Do Xuan Quy, Chief of Office of the Ministry of Justice, said that in the digital transformation process, the press and media play an important role with the mission of correctly and promptly propagating the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, creating consensus and trust in society, creating motivation to successfully implement national digital transformation.
However, awareness and experience in implementing digital transformation in journalism are still limited. Therefore, the organization of this workshop aims to explain, analyze, and clarify changes in the trend of digital transformation in journalism, assess advantages and disadvantages, propose solutions to promote digital transformation activities of press and publishing agencies, and at the same time absorb and refer to digital transformation experiences from press agencies.
At the workshop, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao, Deputy Director of the Press Department, Ministry of Information and Communications, said that Vietnam currently has 800 news agencies and newspapers with nearly 1 million articles produced daily. The large number of news agencies, newspapers and articles create a huge information repository.
According to Ms. Thao, by applying data analysis tools and techniques, we can identify important trends, correlations and insights from this source. Media revenue reaching nearly 4 billion USD shows the growth and potential of the media industry in creating economic value.
However, 50% of advertising revenue is flowing to cross-border platforms and data is being collected and owned by these platforms. Meanwhile, domestic press and media agencies lose revenue from advertising, depending on the data analysis and evaluation tools of these platforms.
Therefore, digital transformation of newspapers, redirecting knowledge flows, and advertising to domestic platforms so that information and knowledge from data can be controlled and used to develop strong journalism, serving the country's political tasks.
Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao also pointed out solutions to support digital transformation of the press of the Ministry of Information and Communications and some solutions to support digital transformation of the press that need to be focused on and implemented in the coming time.
In his closing speech at the conference, Dr. Vu Hoai Nam, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Law Newspaper, affirmed that the press cannot be left out of this breakthrough transformation. In recent times, the Party and State have paid great attention to the national digital transformation in general and the digital transformation of the press in particular.
According to the Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Law Newspaper, press agencies, as information and propaganda agencies of the Party and State, need to be highly aware of their responsibility to the country and also for their own existence and development in the era of technology 4.0.
Mr. Vu Hoai Nam said that the picture of digital transformation in the field of journalism still has many shortcomings, from awareness of digital transformation to human resources, facilities... Many press managers and press agencies have not fully understood the meaning and importance of digital transformation, as well as the awareness of the path, path, and method in digital transformation of journalism. This is an issue that needs to be quickly resolved so that the digital transformation process can achieve the desired results.
