To maintain agricultural development in a safe, value-added and sustainable direction, increase income, and improve farmers' lives, Tam Dao district promotes land consolidation, planning concentrated production areas of goods suitable to the climate and soil conditions of each region and locality to bring about economic efficiency.
Every year, according to the crop season, the District People's Committee directs the Department of Agriculture and Environment, People's Committees of communes and towns to proactively contact functional units of the district, province and central government to provide enough quality seeds to meet the diverse production needs of the people.
Instruct farmers on technical production processes, encourage the application of science and technology in planting and caring for rice and vegetables, improve productivity and economic efficiency; mobilize farmers to produce according to organic methods, VietGAP processes, create safe products with high economic value; actively build production linkage models in chains.
Up to now, 100% of communes and towns have completed planning for concentrated commodity crop production areas. Areas that previously specialized in rice cultivation have now become areas for rotational cultivation of rice and vegetables, crops for animal feed, export crops, medicinal plants, and mountainous areas for growing high value-added fruit trees such as: custard apple growing area in Bo Ly commune; yellow flower tea in Dai Dinh town and Tam Quan commune; chayote in Tam Dao town, Ho Son commune and Hop Chau town; chili for export in Dao Tru; Morinda officinalis in Dai Dinh town...
Some products are granted a traceability growing area code such as: Custard apple in Bo Ly commune; safe vegetables in Dong Bua village, Tam Quan commune; chayote in Dong Thanh village, Tam Quan commune; banana production in Dong Son village, Tam Quan commune...
In particular, the district directed the replacement of pure rice varieties and low-yield, low-value vegetable crops to give way to high-yield rice varieties with good quality rice such as Xi 23, NX 30, TBR 225, TBR 97, QR 15, ADI 28, ADI 168, DT 39 Que Lam, Ha Phat 3, Huong Binh, Tan Uu 98, Huong Com 4, QR15... Hybrid corn NK 4300, CP 511, CP 512, LVN 61, SSC 586, waxy corn, sweet corn... These crops have promoted their strengths on the land of each locality, meeting the consumption needs of the market, bringing high income to farmers.
In 2024, the average rice yield of the district will reach 51.6 quintals/ha, up 101.1% over the same period in 2023; vegetable yield will reach 151.8 quintals/ha, up 105.97% over the same period in 2023, of which 72.8 hectares will be planted with chili, reaching 65.245 quintals/ha, up 1.24% over the same period last year.
The total value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the district reached over 1,656 billion VND, an increase of 3.2%. The average production value reached 85 million VND/person/year, contributing to reducing the poverty rate in the district to 0.86% according to the multidimensional poverty criteria for the period 2015 - 2020.
In the 2024 - 2025 Winter-Spring crop, the whole district will cultivate 4,308.8 hectares, of which rice will be more than 2,200 hectares, accounting for more than 50% of the area. Strive for a rice yield of more than 51.5 quintals/ha; corn will reach 40 - 41 quintals/ha; total food output will reach more than 12,297 tons; the proportion of agricultural - forestry - fishery production value will account for more than 22% of the total production value in the district.
Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tam Dao district, Dao Nguyen Hoang, said: In recent years, the economy of Tam Dao district has been shifting strongly towards developing trade - services - tourism and small-scale handicraft production.
However, the district still identifies agricultural production as playing an important role in ensuring food security for the people. Accordingly, the policy is to shift from self-sufficient production to concentrated commodity production combined with investment in on-site processing of agricultural products from "raw" to "refined" products to increase value and shift from "passive" to "active" consumption of agricultural products to increase income and improve farmers' lives.
At the same time, promote the application of science and technology, mechanization in production, improve farmers' working conditions, increase productivity and product competitiveness, increase income, contribute to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and sustainable development.
With many synchronous and positive solutions, the transformation of the agricultural economic structure in Tam Dao district has been and is having strong changes, which is a stepping stone for the district to effectively carry out the tasks of agricultural economic development in the coming time, in the direction of commodity production, increasing value, helping farmers increase income, developing safe, sustainable and effective agricultural production.
