Facing the opportunity of Vietnam's agricultural consumption market becoming increasingly open, many production models applying high technology and environmentally friendly organic agricultural production have brought great value to goods and high income. Production and business capacity in the agricultural sector has also been increasingly improved, Vietnam's agricultural products have gradually affirmed their position in the global market, present in the markets of more than 185 countries and territories.

In addition, Vietnam has signed 16 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and major trade agreements, opening the door for Vietnamese goods to enter many international markets. At the same time, the fourth industrial revolution with its technology integration and digitalization platform is an opportunity to accelerate the restructuring of the agricultural sector, especially high-tech agriculture with large-scale commodity production.

Accordingly, in the coming time, Ninh Thuan will promote and reorganize production according to the chain of linkages, taking enterprises as the core of linkages; encourage farmers, farms, and cooperatives in the area to apply high technology in production; apply technology to production management in the direction of traceability, ensuring food safety, forming brands, and developing markets.

“We identify the development of high-tech agriculture and digital transformation in agriculture as the main and inevitable trend in the integration trend. It is an effective solution in restructuring the agricultural sector. Taking enterprises as the center of innovation, building and implementing mechanisms and policies to encourage enterprises to invest in research and development, applying science and technology to improve the efficiency of production and business activities, building and developing brands”, Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan shared.

Mr. Cuong said that the harsh climate conditions, hot all year round, are the advantages for Ninh Thuan's agriculture to develop in the direction of high technology. Ninh Thuan is also a locality with many advantages in transportation to connect the consumption of goods; receive and transfer scientific and technical advances, train and develop human resources...

“In particular, two sub-projects to develop irrigation and intra-field traffic to serve the high-tech agricultural area of ​​Ninh Thuan, such as the Thanh Son - Phuoc Nhon and Nhon Hai - Thanh Hai traffic routes and the Tan My, Song Cai, Song Than, and Kien Kien irrigation systems, are projects connecting reservoirs that will be completed and put into use in the 2021 - 2025 period, solving the shortage of irrigation water. This is an opportunity for Ninh Thuan's agricultural sector to develop,” Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan, illustrated.

Infrastructure investment

To achieve the above goal, Ninh Thuan has focused resources and attracted investment to build infrastructure for high-tech agricultural areas; integrated planning of high-tech agricultural areas into the province's socio-economic development planning, in line with practical requirements and development orientation of the industry.

Accordingly, Ninh Thuan will build each district with 1-2 high-tech agricultural zones; select 3-5 zones with favorable conditions associated with the development of specific products to establish essential infrastructure investment projects; organizations and individuals investing in high-tech agricultural zones will enjoy the highest incentives according to the provisions of the law on land and construction of production and service facilities and other incentives prescribed by the province.

The crops that Ninh Thuan prioritizes for development in its high-tech agricultural development roadmap are key crops specific to the locality such as grapes, apples, garlic, green asparagus, aloe vera and some crops with potential for development according to market demand such as onions, garlic, tomatoes, melons, cantaloupes, cucumbers, squash, flowers, and green-skinned grapefruit.

The main livestock species "named" in the roadmap for high-tech agricultural development in Ninh Thuan are cows, goats, sheep, and chickens. As for pigs, Ninh Thuan only develops pig farms that meet the conditions prescribed by the province in each phase, limiting the output of live pigs to no more than 65% of the total output of live pigs and poultry in the province. Ninh Thuan also prioritizes livestock facilities that apply automated control technology in livestock farming, livestock waste treatment, water recirculation and reuse; new generation microbiological technology; microbial preparations that meet international standards, etc.

In the field of aquaculture, Ninh Thuan prioritizes black tiger shrimp, white-leg shrimp, and marine fish; prioritizes automated control technology in environmental management and livestock care; synthetic biotechnology; new generation microbiological technology; microbial products meeting international standards and deep-sea farming technology.

In the coming time, Ninh Thuan will focus on researching and applying hybrid advantages to create specific crop varieties with the potential to dominate the market with superior characteristics, suitable for the ecological and soil conditions of the province. Such as varieties of grapes, apples, green asparagus, melons, onions, garlic. Ninh Thuan will also improve the quality of herds of indigenous cows, goats, sheep, and pigs. Research and produce parent shrimp breeds, marine fish breeds and some other specialty seafood breeds.
