The stock market experienced a volatile trading week. After several sessions of recovery, the VN-Index suffered a sudden selling pressure, falling 0.44% compared to the previous week to 1,236.6 points. The HNX-Index ended the week at 231.56 points, down 2.15%.

Liquidity on both exchanges this week improved compared to the previous trading week when the matched volume increased by 8.95% on HOSE and 18.9% on HNX. Foreign investors returned to net selling on HOSE with 400 billion VND, continuing to focus on VHM (-120 billion), VIC (-994 billion), CTG (-145 billion) and PDR (-119 billion)... On the contrary, they net bought VNM (+990 billion), MWG (+259 billion)...

The industry groups that actively contributed to the market's increase this week were food and beverage, typically VNM (+8.66%), HAG (+0.41%)... The oil and gas group responded to the Middle East tensions with green from stocks BSR (+1.82%), PVC (+0.72%), OIL (+2.76%)... Besides, some other industries witnessed many stocks decreasing in points such as telecommunications, securities, chemicals and fertilizers, steel...

According to observations from SHS Securities Company, the two shock sessions last week showed many short-term abandonment characteristics for speculative positions, high leverage... and opened up many positions to accumulate good quality stocks. In the short term, the market started August with a gap in corporate information after the second quarter report was announced. Therefore, the market will depend largely on the growth prospects of large-cap companies and GDP growth.

Short-term and medium-term investors should maintain a reasonable, average weight and consider restructuring to reduce the weight of stocks with business results in the second quarter of 2024 that are not as expected, and violate the stop-loss level if any, to restructure to leading companies with good fundamentals and good growth results, exceeding expectations. If buying new, you can choose a reasonable price for leading companies with good fundamentals, based on the growth results in the second quarter and the expectation of good growth at the end of the year.

Vietcombank Securities Company (VCBS) forecasts a high probability that the VN-Index will continue to increase slightly before fluctuations appear again. Investors should take advantage of the recovery sessions to restructure their portfolios, eliminating stocks that have violated the stop-loss zone as well as those that cannot maintain the support base. They should only retain stocks that have recovered with the market in a small proportion to prevent risks more effectively. At a time when technical indicators have not yet fully agreed on the market trend, investors should be cautious before making disbursement decisions and should not use margin in transactions.
