Pushing the progress of the new terminal

In mid-September, the construction site of Terminal T3, Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ward 13, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) was still bustling. Despite continuous heavy rain, nearly 30 construction teams with more than 2,400 workers of the joint venture contractor always kept up with the progress.

Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport has entered the construction phase, completing 30% of the final output.

Mr. Le Khac Hong, Head of the Tan Son Nhat T3 Passenger Terminal Project Management Board, said: "The construction site is entering the final stage with 30% of the final output. There are about 7 months left to complete if calculated by April 30, 2025, but the general spirit is that it must be 99% completed in 6 months to have time to fine-tune the system equipment."

While the main project is racing to meet the deadline, satellite bids have also been launched to catch up. A representative of Tan Son Nhat International Airport said that in September, they invited bids for 6 bids for the project to renovate the taxiway lighting system, adjust the operating method signs and arrange the aircraft parking lot of the T3 passenger terminal.

The port also announced a project to equip forklifts for maintenance inside and outside terminal T3 with a total investment of more than 10.3 billion VND.

Expanding gateway routes

Right at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport is the Ho Chi Minh City air traffic control center project invested by Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM). This center is the place to provide approach control services for the Long Thanh International Airport cluster (phase 1), Tan Son Nhat International Airport after the completion of Terminal T3.

According to Giao Thong Newspaper reporters, this central construction site completed the rough construction in just 6 months.

At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City is also urgently expanding many connecting routes. In particular, the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project to relieve congestion at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport on Truong Son Street has now opened the most important underpass. Ho Chi Minh City will also soon expand Hoang Hoa Tham Street leading to T3 terminal.

"The goal is to complete the expansion upgrade by the end of March 2025, before the T3 terminal officially operates. Hoang Hoa Tham Street will open the second gateway to Tan Son Nhat Airport. The entire area around the airport will be cleared," said Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.

How are the stations connected?

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that they are assessing the overall traffic organization and connection plan at Tan Son Nhat airport area before the completion of Terminal T3.

Ho Chi Minh Air Traffic Control Center is under construction at Tan Son Nhat gateway.

It is expected that the traffic system leading to terminals T1 and T2 will remain the same as it is now. The road to Tan Son Nhat terminal T3 will have two directions: along the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa and Hoang Hoa Tham street.

Regarding the traffic connection plan between terminals T1, T2 and T3, Tan Son Nhat International Airport will set up a means of transport to take passengers from the T3 terminal area to the B hall area of the T1 domestic terminal and vice versa. Travel on the service road in the parking lot is expected to have a frequency of 15 minutes/trip.

In addition, ground service units and airlines can transport passengers at any time to ensure timely flight connections in special cases.

In addition, there is also a plan to transport passengers by city traffic. Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) has proposed a plan to transport passengers by bus with a frequency of 10-15 minutes/trip. The planned route is from Terminal T3, Phan Thuc Duyen - Truong Son Street - Terminal T2 - Terminal T1 and vice versa.

Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport is a domestic terminal with a capacity of over 20 million passengers/year. The terminal has 90 check-in counters, 20 automatic baggage check-in counters, 42 automatic check-in counters combined with the national population database, 25 security control gates, and 27 aircraft gates.

In particular, this terminal is designed with a separate area to serve VIP, business class and priority guests.
