On March 28, in Hanoi, the National Innovation Center (NIC) and FPT Semiconductor Company, FPT Corporation, and technology partners held the Opening Ceremony of the Semiconductor Incubation and Development Center (VSIC) and the FPT-ALCHIP Semiconductor Startup Incubation Space.

In the digital age, the semiconductor industry is gradually asserting its leading role in promoting global economic development, especially in the context of technology increasingly influencing all fields. Vietnam, with the advantage of abundant human resources and a favorable business environment, is actively building the foundation for this industry.

One of the important factors helping the semiconductor industry develop sustainably is the public-private partnership model, highlighted in many important policies, mechanisms and guidelines of the Party and Government on the development of the semiconductor industry such as: Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution No. 03 of the Government on implementing Resolution 57; Decision No. 1017 of the Prime Minister on the Program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050"; Decision No. 1018 of the Prime Minister on "Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Semiconductor Industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050".

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Vu Quoc Huy - Director of the National Innovation Center said: The opening of the Semiconductor Incubation and Development Center (VSIC) and the FPT-ALCHIP Semiconductor Startup Incubation Space marks another important step in realizing the Party and State's policies and orientations on breakthroughs in science, technology and innovation development, including promoting public-private cooperation, the 3-House model: State-School-Enterprise to develop the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, contributing to realizing the goal of training 50,000 semiconductor engineers in Vietnam by 2030 and having 100 chip design enterprises.

Mr. Tran Dang Hoa - Chairman of FPT IS and Chairman of FPT Semiconductor, FPT Corporation also emphasized that the cooperation with partners to open the Semiconductor Incubation and Development Center will help FPT realize the government's decree, open up more opportunities for Vietnamese engineers, improve quality and create more opportunities for engineers to develop.

The program was attended by the leaders of Alchip Technologies Corporation of Taiwan (China), a strategic semiconductor partner of FPT Corporation. Alchip Corporation is Taiwan's No. 1 in AI chips, with a capitalization value of about 7 billion USD. TSMC, the world's No. 1 chip manufacturing corporation, is also a major shareholder investing in Alchip.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Tam highly appreciated the effective cooperation between NIC, FPT and partners in developing the semiconductor industry ecosystem. He emphasized: “Close cooperation between the public and private sectors will create an ecosystem and develop sustainable human resources, helping Vietnam not only catch up but also gradually progress and rise in the global technology trend.”

The Deputy Minister also welcomed Alchip’s decision to expand its operations in Vietnam and suggested that Alchip continue to closely coordinate with NIC and Vietnamese partners to develop the semiconductor industry supply chain. The Ministry of Finance is committed to always accompanying businesses and domestic and foreign partners to promote the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

Recently, the Ministry of Finance assigned the National Innovation Center (NIC) to cooperate with leading domestic and foreign enterprises and technology corporations to actively and effectively implement many programs and activities.

In particular, NIC has coordinated with FPT to implement short-term training scholarships for hundreds of students in the semiconductor field, and provide technical support on microchip design for about 40 universities in Vietnam.

In addition, NIC and FPT have also effectively coordinated to connect and attract many world technology corporations from the United States, Japan, Taiwan (China), Korea, etc. to Vietnam to study the investment and business environment.

The establishment of the VSIC Semiconductor Incubation and Development Center demonstrates the strong commitment of FPT Corporation, NIC and partners in building a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem, making Vietnam an attractive destination in this strategic industry.

This is a space that gathers resources, creates an ideal environment for training high-quality human resources and promoting startups in the semiconductor sector. At the same time, it is an important step in the roadmap to bring Vietnam deeper into the global semiconductor value chain, towards the goal of becoming a center of technology and innovation in the region.
