At the conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy the new 2024-2025 school year in Hanoi held on August 14, leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training affirmed that along with continuing to build "happy schools", activities that have brought positive results such as "study drums" will be replicated in many localities.
In 2016, in Phu Chau commune, after every dinner hour, the drum sounded and the commune's public loudspeaker announced, "It's time for evening study. Parents are requested to reduce unnecessary activities and create a quiet space for students to study."
When they heard the drums and loudspeakers, many children stopped playing and sat down at their desks. Parents also turned down the TV volume to keep their children quiet so they could study.
Small things but the results are encouraging. Many parents said that before, they had to remind and scold their children but they still refused to study at night. But since hearing the bell ring, they sit down at their desks without waiting for their parents to remind them.
The "study drum" has spread to many other communes in Ba Vi and some places in Hanoi. Mr. Tran The Cuong, director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that in the 2024-2025 school year, the "study drum" will be implemented as one of the school year's tasks, because this is a way to train students in self-study habits, contributing to improving the quality of education.
During the summary of the old school year and the implementation of the new school year in Hanoi, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training organized the presentation of 70 drums to commune cultural houses, community activity centers, and schools to encourage the implementation of "study drumming".
Supporting the initiative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang, Chairman of the Education Council of Marie Curie School (Hanoi), asked for full funding to buy the drum and have craftsmen from Doi Tam village (Ha Nam) make it from March 2024 to be delivered before the new school year.
Mr. Khang was known for many activities to help and support disadvantaged localities and disadvantaged students. The decision to recruit English teachers to teach online for 3rd grade students studying the 2018 general education program in Meo Vac (where there is a shortage of teachers) by Mr. Khang has now spread widely.
Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Lam Dong are also supporting online English teaching for some northern mountainous localities.
