Closing price of gold today, April 2, 2025, world market
At the time of trading at 4:00 p.m. on April 2, 2025 (Vietnam time), the world gold price recorded by Kitco was at 3,131.25 USD/ounce. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (25,960 VND/USD), the world gold price is equivalent to about 99.06 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Compared with the domestic SJC gold bar price on the same day (98.8-101.7 million VND/tael), the SJC gold price is currently about 2.6 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
Global stock markets fell slightly on April 2 as investors worried about US President Donald Trump’s tariff plans. Gold, a safe-haven asset, remained near record highs as the world awaited details and feared an escalation in the trade war.
In recent weeks, attention has focused on the new round of tariffs that the White House is expected to announce at 8 p.m. GMT on Wednesday. These tariffs could come shortly after Trump, who has already imposed tariffs on aluminum, steel, cars and Chinese goods, causing market turmoil.
Trading was subdued in Europe. The STOXX 600 index fell 0.9%, led by a decline in the pharmaceutical sector. Volatility indexes rose slightly, suggesting investors were rushing to protect their assets against the risk of sharp price swings.
Daiwa Capital expert Chris Scicluna said that while today's announcement is important, the final outcome is still difficult to predict because it depends on future negotiations. This makes it difficult to predict the economic impact, interest rates or the stock market.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq edged up late in the session after earlier losses, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed slightly lower. S&P and Nasdaq futures fell 0.3-0.4%. Investors were hoping for more clarity on tariffs, but business sentiment was hurt, which could slow the global economy.
Beyond tariffs, economic data has been worrying. U.S. manufacturing fell in March, factory inflation was at its highest in nearly three years, and job vacancies fell by 194,000 to 7.568 million as demand for labor weakened. The yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose slightly to 4.168%.
Currency markets were steady, with the euro at $1.0797, the pound at $1.2916 and the yen at 149.55 per dollar. But the focus remains on tariff details, especially as Trump is expected to raise tariffs to 20% on most countries.
Gold rose 0.5% to $3,125 an ounce, near a record, helped by its role as a hedge against financial risks. Oil prices edged lower, with Brent at $74.06 a barrel and U.S. crude at $70.77 a barrel.
