The 27th and 28th of Tet are considered the two peak days of purchasing power, but because this year consumption is relatively slow, prices are mostly stable, and some items are even discounted.

According to the board of directors of Hoc Mon Food Wholesale Market (HCMC), the volume of goods imported into the market on January 27 (28th of Tet) reached about 2,696 tons, an increase of nearly 400 tons compared to normal but a significant decrease compared to the previous day.
Of which, the output of pigs imported to the market on the 28th of Tet reached 8,634 heads, equivalent to about 648 tons, a slight decrease compared to January 26. The group of vegetables, tubers, and fruits reached 1,464 tons; fruits 584 tons.
Due to slow purchasing power, wholesale pork prices at Hoc Mon wholesale market on the 28th of Tet remained good, even decreasing at the end of the market.
Specifically, the price of pork loin is 95,000 VND/kg for type 1, and 90,000 VND/kg for type 2. Meat mixed with thigh is 95,000 VND/kg, spare ribs are 185,000 VND/kg, pork chops are 90,000 VND/kg, lean meat is 113,000 VND/kg, front leg is 80,000 VND/kg, hind leg is 65,000 VND/kg, pork belly is 170,000 VND/kg...

The selling price of many types of products remains stable at a good level such as tomatoes at 11,000 VND/kg, taro at 25,000-30,000 VND/kg, carrots at 10,000-15,000 VND/kg, lettuce at 12,000-15,000 VND/kg... In particular, some products have increased demand so the price has increased sharply compared to normal days such as cucumbers at 20,000-25,000 VND/kg...
Similarly, many traders at Thu Duc agricultural and food wholesale market (Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh city) said that fruit purchasing power during the two peak days (27th and 28th of Tet) was much slower than last year, so the selling price only increased slightly compared to normal days, even the price of some items such as mango and grapefruit decreased by 15-25% compared to last year.
Specifically, the wholesale price for grapefruit is 15,000-45,000 VND/kg, custard apple is 35,000-50,000 VND/kg, mango is 20,000-50,000 VND/kg, tangerine is 25,000-45,000 VND/kg, watermelon is 13,000-16,000 VND/kg...

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on January 27, Mr. Le Hoang Phong - Deputy Director of Hoc Mon Wholesale Market - said that purchasing power was lower than expected while supply was relatively sufficient, leading to pork prices remaining stable in recent days, even decreasing at the end of the market. Meanwhile, in previous years, pork prices at the market often increased significantly during peak days before Tet, especially on the 27th and 28th of Tet.
"This year, Tet holiday is early, so many people choose to return to their hometowns from the previous days and shop more in their hometowns, instead of shopping in the city like previous years. This is also the reason why purchasing power for many items at the market this year is lower than expected, so prices are more stable, not increasing locally at peak times like every year," Mr. Phong explained.
