Thuy Duong said she chose to go to Lapland in February because this is the best time to see the aurora borealis. The temperature during Thuy Duong's visit was very cold, only about -35 degrees Celsius, so the girl carefully prepared warm clothes "from head to toe".
Thuy Duong has days when she "races" with the sun because the land she comes from is in the North, in winter the nights are longer than the days, there are days when the sun does not rise so Duong goes out to play for a few hours before it gets dark. In summer, it is the opposite, the sun can shine all day and night.
"Hunting" for the aurora borealis is an experience worth looking forward to when coming to Lapland.
Thuy Duong booked a professional aurora hunting tour with a tour guide to pick her up and choose the best viewing spot.
When riding a reindeer sleigh around Santa Claus Village, the girl felt like she was lost in a fairy tale world . There are also snowmobiles in the forest, dog sledding, camping...
Her favorite experiences are sauna and ice lake bathing. Bathing in ice lakes at minus degrees Celsius is a tradition of people in Northern Europe in general and Finland in particular. This is also an activity that attracts tourists from all over the world to these cold climate countries.
"After a hot steam bath in the sauna, I gradually soaked myself in the -20 degree Celsius ice pool to feel the ultimate refreshment, then jumped into the hot tub - an outdoor hot tub. Because the water was quite cold, I only soaked in it for about 30 seconds. At first, I was a bit hesitant because I was afraid of the cold, but after trying it, I became addicted to this feeling," she shared.
Thuy Duong shared a clip of herself wearing a bikini and bathing in an icy lake. The clip has received tens of thousands of views, with many people stunned by her strange bathing style and praising her bravery.
Duong said that this is a traditional bathing method of the Finnish people for hundreds of years. If you bathe properly and combine it with a sauna and hot tub, it will be very good for your health. Absolutely no one will naturally jump into the cold ice lake. This is an experience that tourists and stars coming here cannot miss. Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo also bathed in an ice lake in Lapland during Christmas 2024.
During the day, Duong and his group of friends also rented a separate sauna area, located by the lake, serving food and drinks, costing 450 euros (nearly 12 million VND) for 2.5 hours for 3 people.
According to Thuy Duong, Lapland is "fascinating" with its white snow, fresh air, and slow pace of life. Her 5-day, 4-night trip cost about 32 million VND, including airfare, food, transportation, and tours and experiences.
