- Proactively produce summer-autumn rice crop
- Farmers proactively summer-autumn crop
According to the guidance on the crop calendar and variety structure in the 2025 summer-autumn rice crop of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tran Van Thoi district, this year the district will divide the sowing into 2 periods. Period 1 from April 20 to May 10, before the rainy season really begins; the sowing area is high mounds; the sowing method is mainly dry sowing, unsoaked varieties or improved gat sowing, soaked and cracked varieties. Period 2 from May 10 to June 20, for areas with medium and low terrain; the sowing method is dry sowing, soaked and cracked varieties for 25-30 hours or improved gat sowing, soaked and cracked varieties.
Farmers in Tran Van Thoi town are speeding up plowing progress, preparing for the new crop.
Regarding the rice variety structure, farmers should choose group A rice varieties that meet certification standards, are resistant to pests and diseases, are saline, have high productivity and quality, are suitable for local cultivation conditions, and meet the needs of the domestic and export markets. Some high-quality rice varieties can be selected such as: OM18, OM5451, OS20, HP1, Camau1, Huong Chau 6...; specialty fragrant rice varieties: ST24, ST25, Dai Thom 8, Thom RVT...
According to the plan, this year's summer-autumn rice crop, the district will produce more than 28,950 hectares. Up to this point, farmers have prepared more than 20,500 hectares (including plowing and tilling). Mr. Vo Thanh Men, Head of the Kinh Tu Hamlet Farmers' Association, Khanh Loc Commune, said: "Currently, people in the hamlet have prepared more than 90% of the land. Because this year's rainy season is long, households that can plow will plow, households that cannot plow will also take advantage of the time to till the land. According to the plan, people will start sowing around April 20th."
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Kinh Tu hamlet, informed: "A few years ago, farmers here all sowed dry rice in this summer-autumn crop. This year, most people plowed the land so they could not sow dry rice, so they had to switch to sowing. Currently, I have prepared enough rice seeds and fertilizers and pesticides. I will wait until the crop schedule to pump water to flood the fields, then harrow again to level the land before sowing. Through research, this year most people here choose HP1 variety for sowing."
This summer-autumn crop, Mr. Nguyen Minh Kha, Rach Ruong C hamlet, Khanh Loc commune, plans to sow rice around the end of April. "I have finished plowing the land for about a month, if the weather is favorable then I will sow dry rice, otherwise I will sow rice in a cross-section to ensure safety. Choosing to sow in a cross-section requires pumping water to loosen the soil, which costs more, but the advantage is that it can kill mixed rice (weed rice) and is not afraid of rain", said Mr. Kha.
According to Mr. Huynh Van Tien, Kinh Tu hamlet, Khanh Loc commune, farmers may encounter difficulties in planting the upcoming summer-autumn rice crop, because this year they cannot plow, so some households have to sow dry rice, while others have to sow in the fallow season. Such inconsistent planting will make it difficult to prevent pests and diseases, and the cost of pumping water to serve production will also be higher for farmers.
Despite difficulties in land improvement to prepare for the new crop, farmers in Tran Van Thoi district have prepared production plans and agricultural materials. When the crop season comes, they will start planting simultaneously./.
