Large corporations in Hong Kong come to Vietnam hoping for economic cooperation

The Hong Kong (China) delegation has concluded a week-long ASEAN regional visit to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. In Vietnam, the delegation visited Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from July 31 to August 2.

The delegation of about 30 leading business leaders and corporations from mainland China, Hong Kong and internationally in various sectors such as finance and insurance; innovation and technology; professional services; infrastructure, transportation and supply; energy and hospitality strengthened relationships, expanded networks and discussed cooperation opportunities in Hong Kong (China)...

During the visit to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, 30 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed by the delegation members with Vietnamese government agencies and Vietnamese enterprises in the fields of trade and investment promotion, finance, fintech, transportation, supply and education.

These include a number of MoUs between the Financial Services Department and the Treasury of Hong Kong (China) and the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam; HKTDC and VCCI; HKTDC and Vietrade; Hong Kong Airports Authority and Vietnam Airlines Corporation; Hong Kong Airports Authority and Sovico Group; Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and VCCI...

Accordingly, with its dynamic startup ecosystem, Hong Kong will support Vietnamese businesses to develop more strongly in new growing areas such as innovation and technology, sustainable development and green finance.

Mr. Peter KN Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, said that the purpose of this visit is to develop the relationship between Hong Kong and the ASEAN region by introducing Hong Kong's latest business opportunities.

Hong Kong has made great strides in new areas such as innovation and sustainable development. Hong Kong’s advances in green technology, smart manufacturing and supply chain management, underpinned by strong R&D and intellectual property infrastructure and strong government support, will open up many opportunities for cooperation between Hong Kong and ASEAN businesses in general and Vietnam in particular.

Hong Kong is currently Vietnam's 7th largest trading partner and 5th largest FDI investor. Vietnam is Hong Kong's 2nd largest trading partner in ASEAN and 7th largest in the world. According to the General Department of Customs, bilateral trade turnover reached 6.6 billion USD in the first half of this year. Special economic zone investors poured 1.73 billion USD into Vietnam in the same period.
