During the flood in September 2024 in Sang Ma Sao commune, 22 households were affected, of which 5 houses completely collapsed, 17 houses were damaged from 30% to 70%, estimated damage of nearly 3 billion VND; 268 households were at risk of landslides with 1,607 people.

Immediately after the storm and flood passed, the local Party Committee and government actively took action, mobilizing all resources to focus on finding land to rebuild houses for people, urgently restoring production, and stabilizing people's lives.

To ensure safety and support people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, the Ministry of National Defense has supported the construction of a new resettlement area for people here.

The resettlement site was built with support from the Ministry of National Defense, the Military Region 2 Command was assigned as the investor, and the construction unit was Corporation 789 (Ministry of National Defense).

On a land area of more than 3.5 hectares, the construction unit will build 60 houses designed in the traditional architecture of the H'Mong people.

Although it is the 4/30-5/1 holiday, the soldiers and workers are still working enthusiastically.

The soldiers strive to carry out their tasks on the construction site with the highest determination.

The biggest difficulty for the construction unit is that the terrain has many large rocks, requiring drilling and breaking which takes a lot of time.

The weather in Lao Cai highlands is erratic, with rain and sunshine, also affecting the construction progress of outdoor projects.

The resettlement area for disaster victims in Sang Ma Sao is gradually taking shape.

Mr. Dinh Xuan Ha, the construction site commander, shared: “We consider this an important political mission. People have suffered a lot after the natural disaster, so even though it is a holiday, we still volunteer to stay at the construction site. Every brick laid carries the responsibility and affection of the soldiers towards the people.”

Despite the difficulties, the construction unit is still determined to speed up the progress, striving to hand over the houses to the people before June 30, 2025.
