Quality - the key to survival in the global race
According to Mr. Le Thanh Dai, Chairman of the Vietnam Bird's Nest Association, the Vietnamese bird's nest industry is facing opportunities for strong development in the international market, but there are also many difficulties and challenges, especially when competing with countries with long-standing experience such as Indonesia and Malaysia.
Mr. Yang Hsua-Ta, Chairman of the Indonesian Bird's Nest Association, said that in the development strategy, Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular have made the bird's nest industry one of the key industries. Therefore, he recommended that Vietnamese bird's nest enterprises should seize the opportunity, in which quality and food safety are the prerequisites to build a reputable and strong Vietnamese bird's nest brand in the global market. However, only exporting bird's nests and raw bird's nests will make it difficult for Vietnam to reach out to the world in a sustainable way.
The President of the Indonesian Bird's Nest Association believes that bird's nest needs to be developed into processed products, especially canned bird's nest - a convenient and high value-added consumption trend. Along with that, Mr. Yang Hsua-Ta recommends that Vietnamese enterprises need to increase their presence at international bird's nest industry events, thereby not only helping enterprises update market trends but also being an important step to shape a sustainable development strategy for the Vietnamese bird's nest industry.
One of the most important factors in determining product quality and food safety, according to Mr. Yang Hsua-Ta, is that bird's nest products must have no additives, only bird's nest and water, sometimes with the addition of rock sugar. Therefore, it is necessary to apply advanced processing technology so that bird's nest does not turn into water when exposed to high temperatures. "Bird's nest is not simply a high-quality nutritional product, but also carries a unique cultural value of the nation," said the Chairman of the Vietnam Bird's Nest Association.
To meet international standards, bird’s nest products need to be sterilized at 123 degrees Celsius, which has helped Mr. Yang Hsua-Ta succeed in producing high-quality bird’s nests. This also means that the product can be preserved for 1-2 years without turning into water, without the need for any additives.
"The temperature of 123 degrees Celsius is the best standard, and currently no country applies this temperature. In particular, the US FDA standard is 121 degrees Celsius," said Mr. Yang Hsua-Ta.
Mr. Le Thanh Dai, Chairman of the Vietnam Bird's Nest Association, said that in the future, the Vietnamese bird's nest industry will have to preserve and promote the unique flavor of Vietnamese bird's nest so that when people smell it, they will know it is Vietnamese bird's nest.
To do so, bird's nest must be processed meticulously and scientifically to retain all of its valuable nutrients. A transparent process, products that meet international standards and a commitment to quality will build strong trust from consumers, helping to increase the value of Vietnamese bird's nest.
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Bird's Nest Association, instead of competing on price with countries like Indonesia, Malaysia or Thailand, Vietnam needs to focus on developing unique bird's nest products, suitable for each target group, age group and different in quality, processing procedures or value-added products. The story of Vietnamese bird's nest must be told creatively, highlighting the outstanding advantages of the product, thereby creating a distinct and solid position in the international market.

"Sublimation" from technology and brand
With the participation of enterprises, the Vietnamese bird's nest industry is constantly striving to assert itself in the international market. Ms. Luu Ngo Phuong Quynh, Director of Viet Bird's Nest Company Limited with the brand name Truong Tho bird's nest, said that the unit has invested a lot of effort and modern machinery and equipment in the production line to develop a new product line of freeze-dried bird's nest that meets international standards.
"Our goal is not only to produce good products for export but also to allow Vietnamese people to use the highest quality bird's nest products," said Ms. Quynh, adding that the company has received a request to supply about 4-5 containers of specialized bird's nest to an American partner. At the same time, it has received interest from European customers and is carrying out legal procedures to bring the product to this market.
Ms. Le Thuy Chi, CEO of Can Gio Island Swallow, said that the company is investing heavily in modern machinery and technology to meet the increasing demands of the global market.
“We are cooperating with long-standing and reputable bird nest houses in Can Gio to develop the community and contribute to local development. At the same time, we are cooperating with experts from Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade to monitor product quality and research and development. Our goal is to continuously improve product quality, develop sustainably and bring Can Gio Island Bird Nest to the international level,” Ms. Le Thuy Chi shared.
Dr. Dao Ha Trung, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Association, said that rare products such as bird's nest, ginseng, and medicinal mushrooms have high economic value, but also face many challenges such as counterfeit goods, trade fraud, and loss of brand reputation. Recognizing this problem, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade has assigned the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Association to research and deploy a Brand Management System and a safe, sustainable, and anti-counterfeiting supply chain for agricultural products, including bird's nest.
This system applies advanced technologies such as Blockchain, AI, IoT and Big Data, bringing many practical benefits such as providing full information on output, total herd, confirmation from the government and shipping routes; preventing counterfeit goods, ensuring product quality to consumers; and enhancing the reputation of Vietnamese brands. At the same time, the system helps consumers check products easily via QR code or mobile application, increasing confidence in quality.
"With close cooperation between businesses, industry associations and management agencies, this system will be an important solution to protect the value of Vietnamese products and enhance competitiveness in the international market," said the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City High Technology Association.
Within the framework of the recent 2025 Vietnam Outstanding Export Fair, many Vietnamese bird's nest enterprises signed cooperation agreements with foreign enterprises such as the US, Korea, Indonesia, and Europe to bring Vietnamese bird's nest to the world.
