Located in the system of seaports of Vietnam, the deep-water port cluster of Vung Ang - Son Duong has long been considered a "golden" location on international shipping routes. This is also the shortest gateway to the East Sea of Laos and the northeastern provinces of Thailand.
Located in that strategic position, over the years, Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company has been quick and creative in its business strategy and seaport exploitation, thereby building its position, reputation and brand, becoming a trusted partner of many domestic and international customers.

Lao-Viet International Port Joint Stock Company, formerly Ha Tinh Shipping and Trading Company, was established in 1992, with the main business tasks of sea transport and exploitation of Xuan Hai port (Nghi Xuan), serving the needs of goods circulation in the region and in Laos. In 2003, the company was renamed Ha Tinh Port (under Ha Tinh Minerals and Trading Corporation).
In 2001, the company was assigned by the Vietnam Maritime Administration to operate Terminal No. 1; in 2010, it was assigned to operate Terminal No. 2, Vung Ang Port in the South of Ha Tinh Province. Since then, it has increasingly met the demand for freight transport in the region and in Laos through the port.
Implementing the policy of the Party and Government of Vietnam and Laos, on May 24, 2011, Vietnam - Laos Vung Ang Port Joint Stock Company was established (with shareholders from the Lao Government contributing capital) with the mission of bridging political and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. On December 15, 2017, Vietnam - Laos Vung Ang Port Joint Stock Company was renamed Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company (under the Ha Tinh Minerals and Trading Corporation).
Through each milestone, the company has made a strong transformation. The first container ship of Saigon Newport Corporation arriving at the port on April 10, 2021 is a memorable image for the staff of Lao-Viet International Port Joint Stock Company. This is considered a breakthrough from bulk cargo to container cargo, marking the company's milestone of becoming a large-scale seaport operator.
