In Vietnam, the need for rehabilitation is increasing, as the number of traffic accidents, work accidents and serious injuries has increased from 1.2 to 2.4 times.
On the afternoon of June 20, 2024, in Hanoi, the Vietnam - Russia Medical Group organized a seminar: "Rehabilitation of the Russian Federation - new development trends and achievements" with the participation of leading experts in the field.
Dr. Vuong Anh Duong spoke at the event. |
In Vietnam, the need for rehabilitation is increasing, as the number of traffic accidents, work accidents and serious injuries has increased from 1.2 to 2.4 times.
The elderly account for 12% of the total population. In addition, the humid climate is also a factor causing bone and joint pain and musculoskeletal degeneration.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in Vietnam in 2022, about 30% of the population will need rehabilitation. 30 million people will need rehabilitation, mainly suffering from musculoskeletal disorders, back pain, musculoskeletal degeneration...
At the event, according to Dr. Vuong Anh Duong, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, with the development of science and technology, rehabilitation is increasingly proving its indispensable role in preventing disabilities, treating and rehabilitating, helping patients recover their health, improve their functions, and enhance their quality of life through rehabilitation treatment methods and assistive technology.
In Vietnam, in recent years, there have been many important advances in the field of rehabilitation. The system of policies and laws on medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation has been improved;
Technical regulations are issued and effectively applied; a rehabilitation system and network is organized with 1 central rehabilitation hospital and 38 local rehabilitation hospitals (including 10 traditional medicine rehabilitation hospitals);
At the same time, there are about 550 rehabilitation/rehabilitation departments at all levels of medical examination and treatment from initial to advanced levels and 25 hospitals/centers under the health sector of ministries and branches, which have been increasingly consolidated and developed, mastering advanced techniques; the human resources have developed in both quantity and quality;
Service quality is increasingly improved; community-based rehabilitation health care continues to be promoted in localities, helping patients and people with disabilities receive better care, integrate into the community and improve the health of the whole population.
According to the medical practice management system data, the number of human resources granted certificates to practice rehabilitation is currently 2,762 rehabilitation doctors and 5,867 rehabilitation technicians.
In addition to specialized human resources in rehabilitation, rehabilitation practitioners also include traditional medicine doctors, physicians, nurses, etc. performing rehabilitation techniques according to the scope of practice.
Regarding eye rehabilitation in Vietnam, according to Dr. Duong, it is currently not yet developed. Accordingly, at some eye hospitals such as the Central Eye Hospital, there are training sessions on regulation, stimulation of eye muscles, and vision support devices.
While eye rehabilitation helps treat cases of amblyopia and strabismus; helps maintain stable vision in cases of myopia, accommodation disorders, prevents vision loss and blindness.
Rehabilitation exercises at Vietnam - Russia General Hospital. |
According to the representative of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, this discussion is an important opportunity for us to learn more about the scientific and technological achievements in rehabilitation of the Russian Federation, especially in the field of eye rehabilitation, as well as to look back at the achievements in rehabilitation in Vietnam.
"The seminar also discussed new advances and cooperation in developing technical expertise in rehabilitation in general and eye rehabilitation in particular between the Russian and Vietnamese Rehabilitation Associations, helping to improve the quality of life and restore health for people," said Dr. Vuong Anh Duong.
Sharing at the Seminar, Dr. Vasilev Valery Leonidovich, Vietnam - Russia Rehabilitation Center, Vietnam - Russia International General Hospital emphasized that 95% of herniated discs can be recovered without surgery.
Specifically, the main cause of back pain is not due to damaged discs or cartilage, but the pain syndrome is mainly in the fascia, muscles, ligaments, and tendons.
Physical therapy is one of the main methods of rehabilitation, based on the principle that body movement helps to regenerate, improve and maintain the functional state of the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system and other systems in the body.
The goal of the method is with the help of physical therapy to use the body's internal resources to restore muscle mobility, reduce spasms, relieve pain and provide nutrition to the disc.
At Vietnam - Russia International General Hospital, physical therapy for disc herniation is started immediately after the patient has recovered from acute pain. The exercises are prescribed by a rehabilitation doctor for each patient.
The exercises are performed in the multi-function room. The structure of the exercises on the multi-function machine affects the deepest muscles and tendons of the body, which massage or gymnastics cannot do. The multi-function machine is specially designed so as not to put a burden on the spine.
This helps the patient feel more comfortable and less painful. After only 1 month of regular and correct exercise, the patient will feel less pain, even no pain. After 3-4 months, when the basic muscles are strong, the patient will feel more refreshed and healthy.
Regularly updating high-tech rehabilitation methods and the latest trends from developed countries is extremely important to help doctors and technicians access high expertise, supporting rehabilitation treatment in Vietnam to become more effective.
The Seminar is an important opportunity for Vietnamese - Russian Medical Corporations to meet and exchange with experts, learn about the brilliant achievements, and grasp new development trends in the field of rehabilitation in the Russian Federation and Vietnam.
