"Transform" a normal bicycle into a power-assisted bicycle
In 2022, Pham Son Loc and his friends had an experience trip in Hanoi. They rented bicycles together, went from Long Bien bridge to Bat Trang pottery village, then circled back to West Lake. Cycling at a moderate speed, without making noise, listening to the sounds of life, slowly admiring the landscape, freely exploring the roads and cultural stories of Hanoi brought Loc and his friends an impressive travel experience, thereby motivating him to introduce this activity to more people.
Loc wondered how to help people use bicycles easily, pedal lighter, go further, remove the psychological barrier of fear when cycling and help people fully enjoy the trip. “From then on, I have more confidence in what my colleagues and I are doing at VierCycle”, the Founder shared.
Launched in 2022, VierCycle is a green technology company, pioneering in the field of smart mobility. The first product VierCycle brought to the market was a conversion kit, which helps upgrade traditional bicycles into electric-assist bicycles.
Loc explained that when using a bicycle for daily transportation, many people are easily discouraged because they are not used to cycling, they are tired, often sweat, and cause many inconveniences. At that time, they will be faced with a choice: stop cycling, return to the traditional means of transportation, the motorbike, or continue.
VierCycle's conversion kit solution can help users solve that concern. By installing this conversion kit, conventional bicycles are assisted, helping to reduce weight, creating a light and comfortable cycling feeling.
Compared to moving by electric bicycle - which is completely powered by the engine, does not need to pedal, or when the battery runs out, pedaling will feel very heavy, the bicycle equipped with a power assist kit from VierCycle has many more advantages, such as maintaining the cycling state, helping users increase their mobility. In case the battery runs out in the middle of the road, the power assist bike still allows users to pedal as lightly as a normal bicycle.
Pham Son Loc said that the converter is sold by VierCycle for 6 million VND, targeting customers who love cycling and are looking for a solution to make using a bicycle easier and more convenient, especially middle-aged customers.
“We aim to help customers save more energy while still maintaining a comfortable feeling when moving, exercising physically and improving mental health,” said Loc.
Since launching the electric bike conversion kit in 2024, VierCycle has been working with partners to produce compact electric bike models, as well as components for converting regular bicycles into electric bikes.
Personalize your experience on every trip
Along with hardware manufacturing, VierCycle aims to become a mobility platform company, using technology to enhance user experience. Partly because Pham Son Loc and the founding team have experience in IoT (Internet of Things) technology. Moreover, the competition in the electric bicycle market in Vietnam is currently fierce, with the presence of many domestic competitors as well as Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. If VierCycle simply produces hardware, it cannot maintain a competitive advantage in the long term.
“Our roadmap is to develop our own devices to apply to the platform, create synchronization for the platform and bring a consistent quality experience to customers,” Loc affirmed.
The platform Mr. Loc mentioned is called Zyride, created by VierCycle to serve tours by electric bicycles. Officially tested in Ho Chi Minh City since the beginning of this year, Zyride allows users to rent electric bicycles to take tours around the city. With an average price of 100,000 VND/2 hours of rental, users are suggested a personalized schedule by the platform, based on each person's needs and preferences.
In addition, when users cycle to a certain location, such as cultural relics, restaurants, unique cafes..., the platform will proactively provide additional information for users to better understand the location, ensuring a memorable trip.
“With VierCycle, each journey is not simply a move between two destinations, but more than that, it is an adventure to explore people and culture, opening up new horizons through each route, connection and sharing,” emphasized the founder of VierCycle.
VierCycle's immediate goal is to complete the Zyride platform and put it into official use in the second half of 2025. Furthermore, VierCycle aims to expand cooperation under the franchise model with homestay owners, accommodation establishments, etc., turning these locations into places to rent electric bicycles, rent, and exchange batteries, thereby both providing authentic cultural experiences and contributing to diversifying tourism products.
Although it is still too early to predict the future of the Zyride platform, Pham Son Loc and the founding team determined that the startup's vision is not only limited to Vietnam, but also extends to Southeast Asia, to spread the good values of green tourism and smart tourism to everyone.
“More than a technological solution, VierCycle aims for a green future. Each wheel rotation not only takes you further, but also contributes to reducing emissions, protecting the environment and creating positive changes for the community,” said Pham Son Loc.
