According to Dan Tri reporters, on the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, at the fishing ports of Quy Nhon and Tam Quan (Binh Dinh), dozens of offshore fishing boats returned for Tet, many of which had a big catch of striped tuna worth up to several dozen tons.

According to data extracted from Quy Nhon Fishing Port, hundreds of tuna fishing boats hurriedly arrived at the port to sell fish. Among them, many fishing boats using purse seine nets caught from 15 to nearly 30 tons of fish, with some boats earning nearly 1 billion VND in revenue.

Fishing boat BD-97910 TS of fisherman Nguyen Ky (in Tam Quan Nam ward, Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh) has just returned to shore, carrying a haul of nearly 21 tons of striped tuna. With the price of fish at 30,000 VND/kg, this boat earned over 600 million VND.

Fishing boat BD-97910 TS of fisherman Ton Van Duong (Hoai Huong ward, Hoai Nhon town) brought back over 23 tons of fish, with revenue of nearly 700 million VND.

Ship BD-97777 TS of fisherman Nguyen Cong Thanh (39 years old, in Tam Quan Nam ward, Hoai Nhon town) docked at Quy Nhon fishing port with 20 tons of striped tuna.

According to fisherman Thanh, before that, the boat had caught over 15 tons of fish and transferred it to a small boat to bring it ashore for sale. Thus, with a trip lasting over a month, Thanh's fishing boat caught over 35 tons of fish, with an estimated revenue of over 1 billion VND.

Mr. Truong Cong Thuc (48 years old, in Hoai Huong ward, Hoai Nhon town), a crew member on fishing boat BD-97777 TS, excitedly said: "This trip we returned in time for Tet, especially on this trip our boat caught more than 35 tons of fish, we divided the income between crew members to 13-14 million VND/crew member, so we also have money to buy Tet for our wives and children".

However, Mr. Thuc also shared that the fishing industry is also "lucky", some trips also lose money. On this trip, many ships only achieved a yield of 6-7 tons of fish, selling for 180-210 million VND. Meanwhile, the cost for a long trip is about 200-250 million VND, so there is no money to share with the ship.

While the boats return to sell fish for Tet, many fishing boats in Binh Dinh still maintain the tradition of going out to sea to welcome the New Year in the middle of the ocean.

This year, in the largest seafood fishing capital of the Central region - Hoai Nhon (Binh Dinh), many fishermen still maintain the tradition of fishing during Tet. Over 1,000 fishing boats of Hoai Nhon fishermen set sail from mid-December and stay at sea to fish, welcoming the New Year at sea.

In Hoai Thanh ward (Hoai Nhon town), many fishermen are excited because they have had a bumper year of fishing. Many fishing fleets of 6 to 10 boats are formed into fishing groups, earning billions of dong in revenue.

According to Mr. Tran Van Phuc, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Dinh province, the whole province has more than 3,000 fishing boats with more than 17,000 workers fishing during the Lunar New Year, of which more than 1,000 fishing boats with more than 9,000 fishermen go out to sea to fish during the Tet holiday. The total output of aquatic products exploited in the whole province during the Tet holiday is estimated at about 2,500 tons.

To help fishermen feel secure while fishing during Tet, the Binh Dinh fisheries sector has maintained on-duty stations to promptly support and handle situations when ship owners report back to shore. Quy Nhon fishing port also maintains a force on duty throughout Tet to monitor and support fishermen.
