NDO - On the morning of April 3, Hanoi Medical University held a ceremony to announce and present the decision of the Minister of Health recognizing Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong, former Director of the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, to hold the position of Chairwoman of the Hanoi Medical University Council.

Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong takes over the position of Chairwoman of the University Council of Hanoi Medical University, replacing Professor, Dr. Ta Thanh Van.

Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong graduated from Hanoi Medical University (1995), Master's degree from Libre de Bruxelles University, Belgium (2004) and PhD from University of Public Health (2013).

With over 30 years of experience in the medical field, Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong has made many important contributions to enhancing Vietnam's position in HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the international arena.

She was a member of the team that developed the World Health Organization PrEP Treatment Guidelines. She has also participated in many international studies and collaborations with leading universities in the United States…

The Party Committee and Board of Directors of Hanoi Medical University presented flowers to congratulate Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong.

The HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Department has implemented many effective programs, contributing to making Vietnam the fourth country in the world in terms of HIV/AIDS treatment quality and leading the Asia-Pacific region in pre-exposure prophylaxis.

Vietnam has achieved impressive results: the number of new infections decreased by 60% compared to 2010, more than 97% of ARV patients have undetectable viral loads, and the rate of mother-to-child transmission decreased from 30% to less than 1.9%.

The Methadone program has helped tens of thousands of people quit their addictions and reduce their risk of infection. These efforts have helped prevent the epidemic for more than 1.2 million people and reduce the death of 200,000 patients…

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan sent her congratulations and wishes that the collective leadership, staff, lecturers, civil servants, and all students of Hanoi Medical University continue to affirm its position as a national key university, successfully completing the mission of training high-quality medical human resources, contributing to improving the quality of health care for the people; congratulated Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong on being officially recognized as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Hanoi Medical University.

“The process of appointing the position of Chairman of the Council of Hanoi Medical University has been strictly implemented in accordance with regulations, with full participation of relevant agencies and units. The Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Ministry and the leaders of the Ministry of Health believe that with her enthusiasm and experience in managing and operating medical activities, comrade Phan Thu Huong will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity and unanimity of the lecturers and staff of Hanoi Medical University, successfully fulfilling the assigned duties and responsibilities,” affirmed Minister Dao Hong Lan.

Our country is entering a new era - the era of the nation's rise with many opportunities, advantages and difficulties, challenges intertwined, posing important but also glorious tasks for the health sector in general and Hanoi Medical University in particular.

Therefore, the head of the health sector requires the collective leadership of the school, staff, lecturers, trainees and students to effectively implement the Resolutions of the Politburo, the Central Executive Committee of the Party and the Government on training, scientific research and health care for the people, especially following the direction of the Politburo in Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 on the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

In particular, developing Hanoi Medical University into a national key university with capacity and prestige in training, research, medical examination and treatment services, innovation, playing a core, leading role in the network of university education institutions in the health sector, achieving top quality in Asia; ensuring training to improve the quality of medical staff, contributing to improving public health and people's health care, thereby improving the stature of Vietnamese people.

Building and developing a system of training, scientific research, and health care according to the modern, internationally integrated School-Institute model, improving the quality of medical services on par with advanced countries in the region, meeting the increasingly high and diverse health care needs of the people.

On this occasion, Hanoi Medical University signed a memorandum of understanding with units under the Ministry of Health and a number of leading hospitals.

The school continues to innovate undergraduate and postgraduate training programs, enrollment, graduation, evaluation, assessment, and quality assurance to meet the output standards of training programs. Build a team of lecturers and training managers that is sufficient in quantity and strong in quality.

Complete, build new, and gradually internationalize existing and newly opened training programs.

At the same time, promote scientific, technological and innovative activities, build excellent research centers of Hanoi Medical University, recognized by the world scientific community, on the basis of combining Research and Development Centers/Institutes, Clinical Trial Centers and Practice Hospitals; Hanoi Medical University is moving towards being in the list of leading research universities in the region and prestigious in the world...

On the other hand, successfully implementing the digital transformation process, serving university autonomy, enhancing the governance role of the School Council in orienting the school's development strategy; strengthening monitoring and accountability activities, increasing transparency in school activities. Improving the effectiveness and efficiency of school operations, creating space for creating and developing innovations for medicine, education and technology transfer.
