By the morning of September 10, although there was only light rain in Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province, the strong currents and high water levels prevented the construction of the pontoon bridge from proceeding.
Accordingly, it is expected that the pontoon bridge will be installed about 1km from the bridge location, at Huong Non commune, Tam Nong district and Kinh Ke commune, Tam Nong district. These are also two old ferry terminals, with existing ferry landings.'
In the surrounding area, authorities have begun installing lights and cutting tree branches to prepare for transporting equipment and materials to install the pontoon bridge.
At the riverside where the pontoon bridge is about to be installed, many people are waiting for the bridge to be installed. Due to the strong current, some people with boats anchored in the river are trying to bring their boats to shore.
Mr. Huan, a resident of Huong Non Commune, shared that without the bridge, people who want to go to Lam Thao will have to take a detour of nearly 30km. Therefore, people are looking forward to the pontoon bridge being installed soon to make travel more convenient.
“When we heard the news that Phong Chau bridge collapsed, everyone was very surprised. Yesterday, when we heard that many people fell into the river when the bridge collapsed, everyone felt sorry. We just hope that people will be saved and that there will be no more disasters like this,” said Mr. Huan.
