- May cause digestive upset: Okra contains fructans, a type of carbohydrate that can cause gas, bloating, and diarrhea, especially in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

- Effects on diabetes: Okra can reduce the absorption of metformin, a type 2 diabetes drug, affecting the effectiveness of blood sugar control. People with type 2 diabetes often have a high risk of kidney stones due to acidic urine, and okra contains oxalate which can increase this risk.

- May increase the risk of kidney stones: The high oxalate content in okra can form calcium oxalate crystals, increasing the risk of kidney stones, especially in people with a history of this condition.

- Interaction with anticoagulants: The high vitamin K content in okra can reduce the effectiveness of anticoagulants such as warfarin, increasing the risk of blood clots.

- Allergy risk: Some people may be allergic to okra, with symptoms such as itching, hives, difficulty breathing or nasal congestion.
