Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued the 2025-2026 school year schedule plan, applicable to all levels from preschool to continuing education in the area.
According to the plan, the school start time for students is divided into several periods, however the general opening day for all is September 5.
For middle school and high school
This grade level has the earliest school start date. Grades 9 and 12 will start on August 22.
Students in the remaining grades will return to school later, on August 29. The specific school schedule is as follows: Semester I starts from September 8 and ends before January 17, 2026. Semester II will start from January 19, 2026 and end before May 31, 2026.
The entire school year will be completed by May 31, 2026.
For preschool
According to the decision of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, preschool students will return to school on August 28. Semester I will start from September 8 and end before January 10, 2026. Semester II will last from January 12, 2026 to before May 23, 2026.
The end date of the preschool school year is before May 31, 2026.
For primary school
School start time for primary school students. Grade 1 students will start school earlier, on August 25. The remaining grades will start school on August 28.
Regarding the academic calendar, semester I will take place from September 8 to January 10, 2026, while semester II will last from January 12, 2026 to May 23, 2026.
The school year will officially end before May 31, 2026.
Continuing Education
Continuing education students will return to school on August 29 (grades 9 and 12 will return on August 22). Semester and year-end schedules are similar to those for middle and high school.
According to the plan, the Director of the Department of Education and Training will be primarily responsible for monitoring and adjusting the 2025-2026 school year plan. At the same time, the unit must direct all levels of education, from preschool to continuing education, to strictly implement the issued school calendar.
In addition, in cases of force majeure such as extreme weather or natural disasters, the Department has the right to decide to let students take time off from school and arrange a reasonable make-up schedule.
In addition, the Department Director is also authorized to proactively advise and propose to the Chairman of the City People's Committee to extend the school year by no more than 2 weeks compared to regulations. This is to ensure that students complete their study program in case of being affected by natural disasters or epidemics.
Before making any special changes, the Department must report to and obtain the consent of the Ministry of Education and Training .
