Overseas Vietnamese literature and art always turn towards the Fatherland.
At the workshop, Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, emphasized: Overseas Vietnamese artists are "cultural ambassadors" who contribute to preserving national identity in the overseas Vietnamese community, and at the same time are a bridge to introduce a humane and dynamic Vietnam to the world.
Over the past 50 years, the flow of overseas Vietnamese literature and art has shifted from the pain of war to the desire for reconciliation, from nostalgia for the past to pride in the country’s changes and development. These contributions are evidence of the deep, lasting bond between the global Vietnamese community and the homeland.
The arts and literature of overseas Vietnamese always carry within them a solid spiritual foundation: love for the homeland, national pride and the desire to be attached to their roots. Despite living far from the Fatherland, through many generations, overseas Vietnamese artists and writers have always preserved Vietnamese identity in artistic creation and spiritual life.
They are the “storytellers” of a Vietnam that is both familiar and beloved, yet innovative and developing. From nostalgic love songs about the homeland, to literary works depicting the fate of Vietnamese people living abroad, or films that exploit memories of war and dreams of reconciliation, overseas artists have been conveying humane messages towards the country.

Many of their works not only move the overseas Vietnamese community but also touch the emotions of international friends, contributing to highlighting the beauty of the soul and the depth of Vietnamese culture. It is this sincere sentiment that has helped overseas Vietnamese literature and art become a connecting bridge, constantly nurturing the close relationship between overseas Vietnamese and their homeland.
As Professor Nguyen Xuan Thang affirmed, this is the pioneering force in spreading the nation's "soft power", which is both the pride of the nation and a valuable asset of Vietnamese culture in the era of integration.
Cross-border bridge
In his speech at the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen The Ky, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, affirmed that whether they are the second, third or fourth generation, most overseas Vietnamese still carry within them the Vietnamese soul, always looking back to their roots. Artists such as Professor Tran Van Khe, sculptor Diem Phung Thi, etc., or designs with strong Asian identity, have shown the strong cultural vitality of the overseas Vietnamese community, a living testament to the borderless love for the Fatherland.
Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development, said that although many Vietnamese films have been presented at international festivals, more efforts are needed to gain a foothold in the global distribution network. Meanwhile, Vietnamese-origin directors with international backgrounds have the ability to overcome language and cultural barriers, creating a wide spread.
According to Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, we need to learn from the success of Vietnamese directors to bring new winds to Vietnamese cinema, especially in releasing films to the world.
Many opinions also agree that Vietnamese artists abroad not only contribute to promoting national culture, but are also a source of inspiration for contemporary art in the country. From cinema, literature to design, painting… Vietnamese memories, Vietnamese childhood, Vietnamese family are always a source of emotions flowing forever in their works.
It is the combination of traditional cultural background and contemporary artistic thinking that creates a special depth for their works. They not only tell stories about Vietnam, but also help the world understand more about the Vietnamese soul.
Professor Nguyen Xuan Thang proposed many solutions to tap this valuable resource: creating favorable conditions for overseas artists to return home to create, organizing exchange and cooperation activities at home and abroad, recognizing and honoring contributions from afar...
The most important thing, according to the delegates, is to awaken the "national soul" in each work and each person, so that together we can light up a "Vietnamese wave", strong and humane, a soft but strong thread connecting Vietnam with the world, connecting the past with the future.
