Workers master new technology

Proactively improve qualifications, update knowledge, apply information technology to continue to meet the needs of businesses, or switch to freelance work? That is what workers must determine at the present time, when businesses are promoting the application of science and technology, there is no longer room for low-skilled workers who cannot withstand high pressure of work.

Proactively keep up with development

If before the Lunar New Year 2025, Mr. Tran Van Ngan (a worker at a wood processing company in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City) resolutely refused when the company sent him to study to improve his skills and use modern machinery and equipment, then more than a month ago, he proactively went online to find and register for a course on using machinery and equipment in wood processing.

“I am used to manual labor, so when the company asked me to learn how to operate machines to change my job position, I was hesitant to participate. But recently, when I heard that the company would import new machines to serve orders, the HR department also called me and a few colleagues to discuss the company's plan to reduce unskilled workers. I know that if I want to keep my job at this time, I have to change my thinking and improve my skills,” Mr. Ngan confided.

Unlike Mr. Ngan, many workers have proactively improved their knowledge, skills and applied technology many years ago. When the company decided to import a new generation printer from Japan, Mr. Nguyen Tan Nam (34 years old, a worker at a printing company in Binh Tan district) and a technical staff were selected to go to Japan to learn how to operate and manage the machine.

Previously, when he saw that the company had a plan to invest in machinery and high-tech equipment, Mr. Nam proactively registered for courses to improve his operating skills and apply high-tech technology. This initiative helped him get a place in Japan to study and master the company's new equipment.

Mr. Le Mai Huu Lam, General Director of Cat Van Loi Industrial Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Joint Stock Company, commented that science and technology are increasingly developing, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence (AI) have become the trend of the times. Enterprises that want to survive and develop must make full use of technology in production and business. This requires workers with appropriate skills, expertise, and soft skills.

Therefore, along with improving processes, promoting the application of digital transformation and AI in operations management, in recent times, Cat Van Loi Company has also regularly organized training sessions to improve digital transformation application skills for employees from production to business.

Soft skills and AI applications

For a long time, many people thought that the wave of layoffs only happened to low-skilled workers and newly recruited people. However, recently, many skilled workers holding positions in the unit have also been included in the list of personnel being cut.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Phuong, Director of Human Resources Solutions at Talentnet Joint Stock Company, shared that nowadays, having capacity and talent is not enough, new requirements require workers to have a spirit of learning, eagerness to learn, creativity, knowing how to change, and mastering new technology.

According to the Center for Human Resource Demand Forecasting and Labor Market Information of Ho Chi Minh City in 2025, when the economy gradually recovers and businesses accelerate restructuring, not only will the number of workers needing to be recruited increase, but the requirements for skills and expertise will also be higher. In addition, the strong development of e-commerce and AI also opens up many new job opportunities, requiring workers to constantly improve their capacity to adapt to the market.

According to Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Education Association, with advanced technology, online working environment and smart production process, digital transformation application, AI is changing the way of recruiting, operating and developing human resources.

This reality requires workers to have high expertise and soft skills such as communication skills, teamwork, and AI application to improve work efficiency. Therefore, workers need to proactively improve their knowledge, skills, and accumulate experience in the current and future working environment.

It is forecasted that in the second quarter of 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City labor market will need 77,000-82,000 people, in which the sectors with high recruitment demand are trade - services, industry - construction, agriculture - forestry - fisheries. The demand for trained labor accounts for over 88%, in which workers with primary level account for over 34%, intermediate level 20%, college level 14% and university level or higher account for over 18%.

This shows that the labor market in Ho Chi Minh City increasingly requires human resources with high expertise and skills to meet the city's economic development speed. This is also a big challenge for workers in improving their qualifications, but also an opportunity for those who are ready to improve their skills, take advantage of the economic transformation trend to find suitable and stable jobs in the future.
