Promote products through durian festival
The 2024 Krong Pak Durian Festival will be held in early September 2024. This is the second time this large-scale event has been held in Krong Pak district with 12 main, attractive events and activities on a grand scale.
Of which, more than 50% of activities and events have new features such as the competition for good durian farmers (beautiful durian gardens, durian queens); the competition for golden hands in durian knocking and separating villages; the fair to introduce OCOP products and potential local agriculture (expected to have 250 booths displaying and introducing typical products)...
Having attended the Festival for the first time in 2022, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dung (a tourist from Thua Thien - Hue province) shared: "Personally, I feel that this is a new way to promote agricultural products, bringing durian closer to domestic and foreign tourists. For the first time in my life, I have picked, knocked, and peeled durian to eat right in the garden. From there, I saw the hard work and expense of farmers in the process of producing durian. Eating durian in the garden has a very unique and interesting feeling and I will definitely come back at the next events."
"The festival is one of the important ways for the locality to promote the durian brand," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Krong Pak district.
Don't follow the beaten path
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province, the locality has been granted 266 durian growing area codes with a total area of 7,292 hectares. Of these, 68 growing area codes with an area of 2,521 hectares have been approved by the General Administration of Customs of China and 198 growing areas with an area of 4.77 hectares are awaiting approval.
The province has identified core areas for durian cultivation in 7 districts and towns. People outside the planning area should not develop this agricultural product.
In Krong Pak district alone, Dak Lak province - the durian capital of the country, there are more than 7,100 hectares with a durian yield of tens of thousands of tons per year. The area has a climate and soil suitable for growing new durian varieties with good quality and delicious flavor such as Ri6 and Dona. These products have been favored by domestic and foreign markets.
Mr. Nguyen Hoai Duong - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province - commented that businesses and farmers must diversify their deep-processed durian products. For example, they can make candy, powder, and freeze durian to have export goods all year round, instead of waiting for the main season.
To do this, it requires technological innovation, division of responsibilities, and close cooperation between the government, people, and businesses.
