iPhone 17 Pro may have redesigned antenna to optimize performance

This new design is said to be inspired by the approach adopted on the Apple Watch Ultra, where the antennas are cleverly integrated to maximize signal reception and stability.

Current iPhone models place the antennas along the edges of the chassis, with noticeable gaps. With the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple aims to reduce interference from chassis materials and enhance 5G and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.

The antenna arrangement around the camera cluster is expected to take advantage of areas with less obstruction and interference. This will help improve performance in crowded environments and ensure stable connections even when users are on the move.

In traditional setups, the user’s hands and metal components inside the device can distort the electromagnetic energy of the antenna, resulting in reduced coverage. By repositioning the antennas around the camera module, the iPhone 17 Pro can achieve optimal performance in areas with high signal density, such as urban areas or complex indoor environments.

The new antenna layout also has the potential to improve radio performance, especially for 5G mmWave and next-generation Wi-Fi, while reducing latency for streaming and data transmission.

In addition, this change also allows Apple to design the product frame with fewer visible "gaps", resulting in a more seamless and refined appearance. At the same time, optimizing the internal space can also facilitate the integration of other components such as batteries and more efficient cooling systems.

Adopting an antenna architecture inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra marks a significant technical advance. If deployed in mass production, the iPhone 17 Pro could set a new standard for integrating design and network performance, minimizing trade-offs in compact devices.
